Hi, there! 👋🏽

I’m watching "Only Murders in the Building", and this is how I practice my pronunciation. I listen to a scene and repeat it out loud.

I’m not translating.
I’m focusing on intonation, rhythm, and emotion.

This may feel uncomfortable — and that’s okay.
That’s exactly how learning happens.

The goal isn’t perfection.
The goal is to sound more natural and get used to the music of the language.

You don’t need to understand every word to improve your pronunciation.

Confession: I still feel a bit shy speaking on camera. 😅
But practice is always worth it.

HOW TO MAKE THE MOST OF OUR REVISION SESSIONS 🤓

1️. Actitud activa, no pasiva. En la revisión no venimos a “mirar”, venimos a participar: preguntar, comparar, relacionar, anotar. Cuanto más interactúes, más recordarás.

2️. Traé tus dudas anotadas. Si algo te costó durante el año (un tiempo verbal, una estructura, una palabra…), anotá 2–3 preguntas para hacerlas en la clase de revisión. Si lo resolvés ahora, no lo sufrís en el examen.

3. No te quedes con “me acuerdo… creo”. La revisión sirve para confirmar, no para adivinar. Si dudás, preguntá, compará con los demás o probalo en una oración.

4️. Practicá produciendo, no solo leyendo.

“Teach it to someone”: si lo podés explicar, lo entendiste.

7️. Identificá patrones y palabras clave. Cada estructura tiene señales: por ejemplo, Passive → be + past participle. Reconocer “marcas” te hace más rápido en el examen.

8️. Practicá con tiempos reales. Ponete un cronómetro de 5–7 minutos y resolvé una mini actividad. Después, corregí tranquilo/a. La práctica con tiempo te prepara para el ritmo del examen.

9. Antes de terminar → revisá lo que más suele fallar. Tres cosas que TODO estudiante debe checkear al final: Sujeto + verbo (que concuerden), Tiempo verbal correcto, Palabras clave (since/for, already/yet, if/unless, who/which).

10. No quieras memorizar todo en un día. Repasar muchas veces en pocas cantidades es mejor que hacer un maratón de estudio.

Before I start… a little truth:
When I was a kid and a teenager, I was not the most confident person in exams (Silvia, my former English teacher and my first colleague won’t let me lie 😅).
But confidence is something I learned — slowly, over time.

Here are 5 things I do to build my confidence:

1️⃣ Mindset first
Even when I don’t feel confident, I tell myself: “I can do this.”
Confidence doesn’t mean having zero doubts — it means continuing even with doubt.

2️⃣ Celebrate every win
Finished an exercise? ✅
Learnt a new word? ✅
Wrote a paragraph without translating? ✅
Every small win = more energy + more motivation.

3️⃣ Choose your people
Being around kind, supportive people changed everything for me.
When others believe in you, it’s easier to believe in yourself too.

4️⃣ Invest in learning
The more you learn, the more confident you feel.
Lessons, reading, grammar, courses…
Competence creates confidence.

5️⃣ Protect your energy
Music, walking, dancing, laughing with friends — these make me feel stronger and more positive.
Notice what boosts your energy (and what steals it).

✨ Confidence isn’t about being perfect.
It’s about showing up, step by step, lesson by lesson, win by win. 💙

Last week, I got a message from a former student.
He passed his B2 First exam about five years ago but hasn’t used English regularly since.
He wrote:

“Caro, I feel like I’ve forgotten everything. My English used to be really good, but now it’s a disaster!”

This came from someone who used to feel confident, but after years of work and life, has simply lost the rhythm.

He can still understand everything…
but when he tries to write or speak, he pauses.
He knows it doesn’t sound wrong, but it doesn’t sound right either.

If that sounds like you, please remember this:
You haven’t forgotten English — you’ve just stopped using it.

Sometimes all you need is a little “refresh” — to remind your brain how it feels to find the right structure, the right tense, the right word.
Like a warm-up before getting back to the gym.

No rush. Just something to bear in mind if your English feels a bit tired lately.

Warmly,
Caro.

Teaching is one of the most voice-intensive jobs, and we might experience hoarseness or even vocal fatigue because we're talking, projecting, and sometimes competing with background noise all day. 🎤 🚫 🗣️

Here’s what you can do to protect your voice specifically as a teacher:

1. Warm up before class
Spend 2–3 minutes doing gentle humming, lip trills (like “brrrrr”), or soft “mmm” sounds to wake up your vocal cords.
Yawn or sigh gently — it helps relax your throat muscles.

2. Use your breath, not just your throat
Breathe from your diaphragm (lower belly) to project your voice with less strain.
Try to speak on the exhale rather than holding your breath — it reduces pressure on your vocal cords.

3. Control classroom noise
Use visual signals (clapping patterns, hand raises) to get students’ attention instead of shouting.
If possible, arrange seating or classroom acoustics so you don’t have to talk over noise all day.

4. Schedule “voice breaks”
Plan a few minutes of quiet work, pair activities, or group reading during the day so your voice can rest.
Drink water in between classes (keep a bottle nearby).

5. Avoid voice “abuse”
Don’t clear your throat too often — sip water or swallow instead.
Avoid talking over music or loud environments during breaks (like the teachers’ lounge).

6. End-of-day recovery
Drink something warm (not too hot) with honey.
Use a humidifier at home if the air is dry.
Gentle steam inhalation for 5–10 minutes in the evening can help soothe irritation.

Hope these tips help!🙏🏻

Olavarría - BAP 2025
Hoy vivimos una experiencia que nos llenó de alegría y aprendizaje.
Bien temprano partimos rumbo al teatro y disfrutamos de dos obras maravillosas: The Musketeers by Chance y To Be and Not To Be. 🎭

Gracias

🎯 Grammar drills don’t have to be boring!

I turned my lesson into a Betting Game and my students were hooked.

All you need is:
📝 Sentences with missing words (based on your topic)
🎲 A points system
⚡ The thrill of competition

This week I used it for Future Tenses (B1) and Conditionals (basic, mixed and alternative forms) (B2) — but it works with ANY grammar or vocabulary.

💡 Save this post and try it in your next class!

And if you do, tag me so I can see your students in action! 🙌🏼

🧠 1. Pensá en inglés (¡aunque sean frases simples!)
Formá el hábito de pensar frases cotidianas en inglés: "I need to buy bread", "Tomorrow I’ll study at 5". Cuanto más lo practiques, más natural va a salir al escribir.

📝 2. Escribí todos los días (aunque sea poco)
Llevá un diario corto en inglés o escribí 5 frases por día sobre tu día, tus planes o lo que te gusta. La clave es la constancia.

📲 3. Usá apps que te corrijan o te den feedback
Grammarly, Quillbot o LanguageTool te ayudan a corregir errores y entender por qué algo está mal. Perfecto para practicar self-editing.

👀 4. Leé buenos ejemplos
Leé emails, ensayos o artículos en inglés. Prestá atención a cómo estructuran ideas y qué frases usan. ¡Podés imitarlas para tus propios textos!

🤓 5. Usá conectores
Palabras como however, also, because, in addition, on the other hand ayudan a que tu texto fluya mejor. Hacete una lista y tratá de usarlas.

✍🏽 6. Planificá antes de escribir
Antes de empezar, anotá tus ideas principales. Esto ayuda a que el texto sea más claro y ordenado (¡especialmente en exámenes!).

📥 7. Pedí feedback o usá IA, ¡con criterio!
Mostrá tus textos a tu profe y/o compañeros. O usá herramientas como ChatGPT para mejorar frases, pero no copies sin entender. Aprendé del feedback.
