Teaching Tips - Prepositions

An absolute minefield especially at Pre -Intermediate Levels! My tip is simple. Don't teach them! Play them! Sing them! Say them! Draw them! But don't teach them! Let the kids assimulate them. But ... always correct them!

If you wish to inscribe in the Teachers' Immersion Course on June 20th, 21st, and 22nd, there are some questions which you will want answering.
1. To reserve a place, you will have to pay a deposit ( minimum $150 - maximum $1600). If you pay the minimum deposit or any sum less than the maximum, you can pay the rest in as many quotas as you want as long as you have paid the total amount due before breakfast on the 20th.
2. If you have to cancel your attendence at the course, all money paid by you will be returned by the 25th - MINUS $150.
3. If you pay it all in one payment, you get a 10% discount.

CLASSROOM DESIGN (2) A well-designed classroom has all displays at student eye-level, and easily seen from each seat. The Teacher's desk should be movable, so that the position can be adjusted for teacher-based activities and for student-based activities.The desks for students should be light so they can be easily moved for individuals and groups. Bookshelves should be at student level, and easily accessible without the need to disturb others. And blackboards/whiteboards/magic boards should (if possible) not be in just the traditional place in front, but easy to use at angles and side positions.

Our 25th Immersion Course for Teachers and Advanced Students of English will take place on 20th, 21st, and 22nd of June in Loma Bola. We are really pleased to announce that GRACE BERTOLINI will be joining us in directing the course, and that there will be no limit on places. The cost of the course will be $1600 for those who need hotel accomodation, ( an all inclusive price which includes all meals and accomodation) and $850 for those who are local teachers. CLASSROOM DESIGN: (1) How many of us ever think about the design of our classrooms and whether or not we could improve them. Nothing to do with us? Not true, - we work in them and plan our activities inside them. Most school administrators welcome comments on classroom design (provided there is no architectural change envisaged) since they have no more idea than most people.
It is amazing how little anyone thinks about classroom design, so the average classroom has shelves accessible only from one side of the room, blackboards which dominate one wall and are visable at only one angle, and large areas of the floor which are storage places. Sound familiar? Then read on during the week!

Don't forget that we will be beginning the online courses for C.E.T. next month. Apart from the value to those students who can't get regular classes in C.E.T. in their institute, they are of value to institutes themselves. Teaching Tips - Conditional Sentences

Teaching the formation and variations of conditional sentences isn't too difficult. Indeed those of your English students who are good at maths, find the possibilities very easy to learn. But what bothers me as a teacher is that a) they don't relate conditional sentences in English to similar structures in their own language, and b) they don't often don't realise that conditionals form 'implied language' and not 'narrative language'. That's why I always start with the conditionals in Spanish. Seen from their own language, the structures and variations are easier to understand.
