Why Young Learners Exams change: listening to your needs
As Cambridge Assessment, we are committed to improve the quality of our exams; all our exams are regularly reviewed to make sure they are relevant to learners and schools. Young Leaners Exams were revised since we wanted to ensure that they reflect the current trends in curriculum design, pedagogy and assessment for this age group.
Firstly, the revision process took place to get information about how users see and feel about the exams. A market research was carried out with Centres, heads of English, teachers, parents and learners.
The results showed that everyone was very pleased with the exams in general but one of the areas that needed improvement was results reporting. The survey said that everyone liked the fact that there is no pass or fail and that the shields are easy to understand, but more detailed feedback was also needed.
Taking all these aspects into consideration, certificates will remain the same. We are adding two parts: the first is the diagram, which shows how Starters, Movers and Flyers line up, and then also how Flyers and Key for schools match up; the second how all the exams align with the CEFR levels, which was another main piece of work that we did on this revision.
