Para aquellos interesados en los idiomas: El plural de la palabra person in English is usually people. When can we use persons as plural of person and when should we use peoples with a final s? The same goes for fish, fish is either singular or plural. However, in what unique case should we use the word fishes as plural of fish?
Here go the answers. The usual plural of the word person is people. However, when used formally we should use persons. For example: maximum capacity 6 persons . We see this in elevators or lifts.
The study was conducted with 10 persons... etc.
People takes a final s when it refers to an ethnic group. For example: The peoples of Africa (Los pueblos de África). In the People´s Republic of China is a possessive case. Se tradujo erróneamente como República Popular China y el nombre quedó.
Finally, the word fish takes plural with format fishes when it refers to different species. For example: This river usually teems with fishes. We mean that there are fishes of different species. The same goes for a fishmonger´s claim: "We have a great variety of fishes". .. By the way, the Genus of a species is written with an initial Capital letter and the species in lowercase. We are Homo sapiens. A gorilla is Gorilla gorilla ( Genus ans species) The plural of Genus is Genera and the word species has the same format for singular and plural .
