Join us on June 6th at 10 am to analyze the conceptual metaphors present in the King’s speech to Congress and explore their relationship to ideas of democracy, national identity, and shared values. We will also discuss Henry James in connection with the speech and the historical and cultural ties between Britain and the United States. In addition, we will examine Felipe VI’s reflections on democracy and civic values, considering the symbolic role of monarchs as figures who often articulate moral and cultural concerns that contemporary politicians tend to avoid confronting.
