Adapting to the "New Normal" of Distance Learning
By Trad. Ana M. Almeyda - Trad. Patricia Peirano
We have been teaching English while focusing our training in communication skills for business professionals . We've been using technology both in-company and on line classes (virtual classes) for about a decade . However, we can’t deny that the sudden shift from the in-company classes to fully online teaching due to the COVID -19 has been a new challenge for both students and teachers.
This shift has changed the education market worldwide forever. Out of the blue there we were , collaborating and supporting companies in a distance learning solution; adapting to and adopting new learning platforms; gathering data to get UX satisfaction through our classes; as well as being available and flexible so as to meet our students and companies' expectations.
We adopted Mr. Charles Darwin's theory: "Those species that adapt best to their changing environment, have the best chance of surviving while those who do not adapt, do not make it”. Bearing that into account, we decided to give our best in adapting to this new environment by understanding and identifying our students' needs , supporting and monitoring their progress ,and forging with them a sense of teamwork and empathy while facing uncertainty.
The results: excellent attendance to class, active participation, a lively spirit and positive attitude, and above all, a sense of brotherhood and collaboration among students and teachers. Our 100% online training and teaching of English as a Second Language in this new corporate environment has proven 100% effective , specifically for the improvement of the students' business language skills.
