Updated Information Notice – 2026 Amendment to PSSR Training Requirements

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted Resolution MSC.560(108), introducing amendments to the Personal Safety and Social Responsibilities (PSSR) training requirements that will take effect on 1 January 2026. These amendments expand the PSSR learning outcomes to include new material aimed at preventing violence, bullying, harassment, sexual harassment and sexual assault on board ships.

From 1 January 2026, all seafarers undertaking PSSR training for the first time will be required to complete the revised course incorporating these updated learning objectives. The new content is designed to help seafarers:
• Understand unacceptable behaviours,
• Recognise indicators of harm, and
• Follow appropriate reporting and response procedures.

Existing seafarers are not required to revalidate or re-take PSSR training as part of this amendment. Certificates issued under MSWI remain valid without expiry.

Although no retrospective action is mandated, companies are strongly encouraged to review their onboard policies and internal training programmes to ensure alignment with the updated IMO expectations. The new framework recognises that a safe and respectful social environment on board is essential to both seafarer welfare and operational performance.

In summary, our position is as follows:
1. Seafarers who completed PSSR training before 1 January 2026 do not need to retake the course.
2. Existing PSSR certificates remain valid indefinitely; no reissue is required.
3. While retraining is not mandatory for existing seafarers, companies are strongly encouraged to provide guidance and training aligned with Resolution MSC.560(108) to promote safe and respectful working environments.
4. Some flag states or individual companies may adopt additional requirements, and seafarers should ensure compliance with the policies applicable to their vessel or employer.

Location: St. Maarten
Schedule: Full-Time (5 days a week + 1 Saturday per month)
Compensation: Competitive pay, based on experience

We are a maritime training school in St. Maarten seeking a motivated and organized Administrative Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will handle reservations, student coordination, and general office support — all while providing excellent customer service in a dynamic maritime education environment.

Responsibilities:
• Manage student reservations and class scheduling
• Answer phone calls and respond to inquiries
• Maintain accurate records and student files
• Prepare and issue certification cards and related documentation
• Support instructors and management with administrative and office tasks
• Provide friendly, professional customer service to students and visitors

Qualifications:
• Strong computer skills are a must (Microsoft Office, data entry, and certificate-making programs)
• Prior administrative or customer service experience (preferred)
• Knowledge or background in the maritime industry is a strong asset
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Team-oriented, dependable, and friendly
