๐บ A heartfelt spotlight on Milton Peters College (MPC)! โจ
MPC students have been at the heart of NIA's Break Free Ceramic Movement โ a beautiful, hands-on ceramics program that connects art, culture, and Caribbean history. ๐บ
Through this program, young people have been getting their hands in clay, learning traditional Caribbean ceramic techniques, exploring stories of liberation and cultural heritage, and creating original works that are truly theirs. And it doesn't stop in the studio โ their creations have been showcased at public exhibitions and markets, giving them a real platform as artists! ๐จ
Thank you, MPC and SVOBE, for supporting your students' participation in this unique creative journey. We see the confidence, the curiosity, and the pride that this program sparks โ and it's wonderful! ๐

๐ Shining a spotlight on a wonderful international partnership: the 5'O Clock Program at Amsterdam Hogeschool voor de Kunsten (AHK)! ๐ญ๐
Through our collaboration with the 5'O Clock Program โ led by the fantastic Percy Kruithoff โ NIA has built a beautiful two-way bridge between Sint Maarten and Amsterdam:
๐ NIA feeds talented students from our community into the 5'O Clock Program, giving them access to world-class arts education in Amsterdam and opening doors to professional careers in the arts.
๐ธ And in return, scholarships have been made available for NIA students โ making it possible for young people from Sint Maarten to pursue higher arts education abroad, regardless of their financial means.
This is exactly the kind of international partnership that changes lives. Thank you, Percy Kruithoff and the 5'O Clock Program, for believing in the talent that grows on this island and for giving our students a pathway to the world stage! ๐๐

๐ We are so excited to spotlight a wonderful new collaboration with the American University of the Caribbean (AUC)! ๐๐
NIA is one of several local NGOs currently partnering with AUC on a fascinating research project โ and we have to say, it has been one of the most enriching collaborations we've been part of in a long time!
๐ฌ AUC's 2nd semester medical students, under the guidance of the wonderful Dr. Natalie Humphrey, are spearheading a research venture to adapt and pilot a Community Culture Engagement Measure โ tailoring it to the unique context of Sint Maarten. And they are doing it in close collaboration with local NGOs like NIA!
Every month, we gather for dinner meetings with these brilliant, curious, and genuinely delightful students โ sharing our perspectives, our experiences, and our community knowledge to help shape research that could truly benefit Sint Maarten for years to come. ๐ฝ๏ธโจ
It's a beautiful reminder that great research doesn't happen in isolation โ it happens in community. Thank you, AUC, and thank you Dr. Humphrey and your incredible students for including us in this journey! ๐โค๏ธ
