ASPIRANTUM 2026 Summer School students visited the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia for a unique opportunity to learn about the country's political system from within its legislative institution.

During the visit, Member of Parliament Sona Ghazaryan delivered an engaging lecture on Armenia's contemporary political landscape and answered students' questions. Participants also toured the Parliament's main chamber, where legislative sessions take place, and explored the Parliament Museum to learn more about the history and development of Armenia's parliamentary democracy.

Experiences like these give our students valuable insight into contemporary Armenia while complementing their language and cultural studies.

As part of the ASPIRANTUM 2026 Summer School cultural program, our students visited the Yezidi Temple in Aknalich—the world's largest Yezidi temple—followed by the Mother Cathedral of Holy Etchmiadzin, the spiritual center of the Armenian Apostolic Church, and the historic St. Hripsime Church, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Armenia's finest examples of early Christian architecture.

The journey concluded with a visit to the Tomb of the Turkmen Emirs, a unique medieval mausoleum that reflects the rich cultural and historical diversity of the region.

ASPIRANTUM 2026 students visited the Matenadaran, one of the world's most important repositories of ancient manuscripts and a symbol of Armenia's rich intellectual and literary heritage.

During the visit, students explored the museum's remarkable collection of medieval Armenian manuscripts, illuminated gospels, historical chronicles, scientific works, maps, and rare documents. They also learned about the centuries-long tradition of Armenian scholarship, manuscript production, and the crucial role the Matenadaran has played in preserving knowledge through the ages.

The Matenadaran is more than a museum—it is a testament to Armenia's enduring commitment to education, learning, and the preservation of human knowledge.

On June 21, the participants of the ASPIRANTUM 2026 Summer School set off on their first cultural excursion, visiting two of Armenia's most iconic historical sites—Garni Temple and Geghard Monastery.

On the way, the group stopped at Charents' Arch, one of the best viewpoints in Armenia, to admire the breathtaking panorama of the biblical Mount Ararat. They also visited a traditional lavash bakery, where every student had the opportunity to bake Armenia's famous flatbread by hand and learn about this centuries-old culinary tradition, which is recognized by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.

The first destination was Garni Temple, the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded temple in Armenia and the only pagan temple to have survived in the region. Built in the first century AD, it offers a fascinating glimpse into Armenia's pre-Christian past and overlooks the spectacular Azat River Gorge.

The journey continued to Geghard Monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Much of the monastery is carved directly into the surrounding cliffs, creating a unique blend of architecture and nature. For centuries, Geghard has been one of Armenia's most important spiritual and pilgrimage destinations.

The day concluded with a traditional Armenian banquet, where students enjoyed local cuisine, music, and warm hospitality (see the next reel) an unforgettable beginning to their cultural journey in Armenia.

For many of our ASPIRANTUM 2026 Summer School participants, June 20 marked their very first day in Armenia. What better way to begin their journey than by exploring the streets, history, and atmosphere of Yerevan?
The walking tour started with a refreshing lemonade reception, kindly prepared by one of Yerevan's most famous pubs, giving everyone a chance to meet, relax, and get to know one another before setting off.
Throughout the tour, students visited the ASPIRANTUM office, saw the Ibis Hotel where their classes would begin, and discovered some of Yerevan's most iconic landmarks, including the Cascade, the Opera House, Northern Avenue, and monuments dedicated to some of Armenia's most prominent historical and cultural figures.
One of the most memorable moments of the day was an unexpected stop at a local family's home, where the students were welcomed with freshly brewed Armenian coffee and genuine hospitality. It was a unique opportunity to experience everyday life in Yerevan beyond the city's famous sights.
This walking tour was much more than sightseeing—it was the beginning of new friendships, cultural discoveries, and an unforgettable summer of learning in Armenia.
