We were happy to host prominent translation scholar Brian James Baer from Kent State University, who delivered two lectures: “Translation and/in Time” and “Translation Journals and the Making of Soviet World Literature: From Techne to Device.”
The lectures focused on translation history, Soviet world literature and the role of anthologies and journals in literary culture. Dr. Baer spoke about how translation can shape the way history and literature are understood and how Soviet translation journals reflected the political and cultural changes of their time. The lectures were followed by interesting discussions with students and faculty members.
We are also pleased to note that Dr. Baer is the guest editor of the upcoming special issue “Rethinking Soviet Translation Studies.”
