In a Montessori environment, flash cards serve as keys to the world, designed to bridge the gap between concrete objects and abstract symbols. Rather than just memorization, these "classified cards" or "nomenclature sets" emphasize vocabulary enrichment and categorical logic.

🪷 The Pink Tower is perhaps the most iconic symbol of the Montessori classroom, consisting of ten solid wooden cubes.
🌻Designed by Dr. Maria Montessori to refine a child’s visual discrimination of dimensions, the material requires the child to stack the cubes vertically from largest to smallest, creating a physical representation of a base-ten sequence.
🌹 As children handle the blocks, they develop muscular coordination and "muscular memory" of the relationship between size and weight, as the largest cube is significantly heavier than the smallest. Beyond its mathematical foundations, the Pink Tower prepares the child for concepts in geometry and the decimal system, all while fostering focus and a sense of order through its precise, self-correcting design.

This is how we do it, the Montessori way!

The Spindle Box is a key Montessori math material because it moves a child from rote counting to a concrete understanding of numbers. Its importance boils down to four main points:
🚩The Concept of Zero: It is often the first time a child "sees" zero. They see an empty compartment labeled "0," making the abstract idea of "nothing" tangible.
🚩Symbol vs. Quantity: It forces the child to link a written numeral (the symbol) to a physical pile of loose items (the quantity).
🚩Numbers as Sets: By holding the spindles, the child feels that "9" is physically bulkier and heavier than "1," teaching them that numbers are groups of individual units.
🚩Self-Correction: There are exactly 45 spindles. If the child has any left over or runs out at the end, they know they made a mistake and can fix it independently.

"These words reveal the child's inner needs: 'Help me to do it alone.'" ~ Dr. Maria Montessori
We, at International Montessori School of Albania, offer the authentic Montessori method.
Our educators are fully certified Montessori Teachers. Their primary role is to be a keen observer and a passive aid—connecting the child to the appropriate materials at the right moment, stepping back to allow the process of concentration, and avoiding unnecessary intervention.
