Huge congratulations to our very own Steve Harripersad!

Our MD Candidate made us proud at the Gujarati/Indian Physicians Convention 2026 in Orlando, Florida, where his research poster was awarded a Certificate of Achievement as a Top-Tier Presentation.

Steve presented his work on “Fermentation-Enhanced Phyllanthus Emblica and Organic Zinc Biocomplexes” – exploring how fermented Amla and organic zinc could offer a new approach to managing Type 2 Diabetes.

Every doctor remembers the moment before it all began.

The questions.
The self-doubt.
The deep breath.

And then... one decision changed everything.

A white coat isn't just something you wear—it's a promise to learn, to serve, and to make a difference in someone's life.

Wherever your dream begins, every great medical journey starts with believing in yourself.

💙 Your future in medicine starts with one decision.

Fall in Love with Surgery: Where Science Meets Skill, Precision Meets Compassion, and Every Incision Tells a Story

MUCM Antigua was honored to host renowned Antiguan surgical leader Dr. Vonetta George for an inspiring seminar for our MD students.

Dr. George is Chief of Surgery and Consultant General Surgeon at the Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre, Chair of the Antigua & Barbuda Medical Council, National Focal Point for the WHO Emergency Medical Team Initiative, Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives after passing the ACHE Board of Governors Examination, with over 19 years of dedicated service and dual Masters Degrees in Emergency Medicine and Healthcare Administration.

Presented from an article by MUCM student Sussan Chukwu on June 26, 2026, Dr. George took students beyond the textbook:

Beyond technique: Knowing when NOT to operate is the highest form of surgical judgment
Safety culture: Respect for tissue, meticulous hemostasis, sterile technique, surgical safety checklists and Enhanced Recovery Pathways
Team medicine: Surgery succeeds through collaboration among surgeons, anesthesia, nursing, pharmacy, radiology, pathology and ICU
Future of surgery: Robotics, AI, 3D imaging and precision medicine redefining patient care

Her core message: The operating theatre is where science, discipline, teamwork and hope converge to restore life, function and dignity – and every successful outcome reflects an entire team earning patient trust.

Thank you, Dr. George, for mentoring the next generation of physicians at Metropolitan University College of Medicine.
