What's the difference between these?
1. I exercise so (that) I stay healthy.
2. I exercise, so I stay healthy.
1. I exercise so (that) I stay healthy.
In this structure, B is a goal. It is the reason for A. We know that my goal is to be healthy, and that is the reason why I exercise.
More examples:
-She works hard so (that) she can support her family.
-I took notes so (that) I wouldn't forget the information.
-He ate a snack so (that) he wouldn't be hungry in class.
-I watch TV every day so (that) I learn new English words.
2. I exercise, so I stay healthy.
In this structure, B is just the result of A. It is not a goal. We know that my good health is the result of exercise. However, we don't know if wanting to stay healthy is the reason why I exercise.
More examples:
-He didn't sleep much, so he was tired.
-It's going to rain a lot, so the field will be muddy.
-She was excited, so she called her friend.
-I eat a lot of junk food, so I have high blood pressure.
