Information from the black boxes recovered from the June 12 Air India crash has been successfully downloaded and is being analysed, Indian government officials said Thursday afternoon.
The black boxes were damaged in the crash and there were questions over the recovery of usable data. Last week sources told media the government may send the FDR and CVR to the United States for forensic extraction of data. However, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has succeeded in safely extracting the Crash Protection Module, or CPM, and the memory module, and downloaded all data.
The government said both boxes - one found on the rooftop of the college hostel into which the plane crashed and the other in debris from the crash - were transported to the AAIB lab in New Delhi on Tuesday and the data was extracted successfully the same day.
"Analysis of CVR and FDR data is underway. These efforts aim to reconstruct sequence of events leading to the accident and identify contributing factors to enhance aviation safety," the government said.

Pratik Joshi had been living in London for six years. A software professional, he’d long dreamed of building a life abroad for his wife and three young children, who stayed back in India.
After years of waiting for due clearances the dream was finally coming true. Just two days ago, his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, a renowned doctor in Udaipur, resigned from her job. The bags were packed, goodbyes said, the future within reach.
This morning, the family of five, filled with hope and excitement, boarded Air India flight 171 to London. They clicked a selfie. Sent it to relatives. A one-way journey to a new life. But they never made it. The plane crashed. No one survived.
In a matter of moments, a lifetime of dreams turned to ash. A brutal reminder, life is terrifyingly fragile. Everything you build, everything you hope for, everything you love, it all hangs by a thread. So while you can, live, love, and don’t wait for happiness to start tomorrow.
