What an incredible and historic two days at the Thailand International Conference on Education Research (ThaiCER) 2026!

I was deeply honored to present alongside distinguished education leaders, including Prof. Dr. Yochanan Wongsawat, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Higher Education, and my dear friend, Prof. Dr. Joe O’Hara, the WERA President, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Prawit Erawan, the Secretary of the Office of the Education Council and Dr. Kraiyos Patrawart, the Managing Director of the Equitable Education Fund. Our dialogue, "From Evidence to Impact: Shaping Resilient Education Futures," focused on actionable strategies to translate academic research into real-world, systemic impact. Prior to the event, we had a highly productive and informative meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister. It was deeply encouraging to witness the Thai government's strong commitment to advancing education and supporting the educational research community.

The proudest moment for me was watching the Thailand Educational Research Association (THERA) officially launch. As the WERA Past-President, and the Chair of the WERA Membership Committee, I have spent the last three years advising and working with my Thai colleagues to bring this association to life. Seeing it established in the presence of His Excellency the Minister for Higher Education was truly unforgettable.

Beyond the main stage, I had the pleasure of meeting with the Minister of Education, as well as representatives from the OECD and UNICEF. Another wonderful experience was delivering a workshop to the dedicated staff and past graduate students at the Kasetsart University Education Faculty.

I am truly honored to announce that I have joined the Editorial Board of the International Journal of Qualitative Methods(IJQM).

As the peer-reviewed, interdisciplinary open-access journal of the International Institute for Qualitative Methodology (IIQM) at the University of Alberta, IJQM is at the absolute forefront of advancing methodological innovation. I am deeply honored to be invited by the Office of the Education Council (OEC), Ministry of Education, Thailand to participate in the Thailand International Conference on Education Research (ThaiCER) 2026. The conference will take place from 6-7 August 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand.

This year's vital theme is "Resilient Future: Building Adaptive, Equitable, and Sustainable Education". I look forward to attending the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, 6 August 2026. Furthermore, I will be participating as a distinguished speaker and panelist in the High-Level Policy Dialogue on Friday, 7 August 2026.

Our specific session is titled "From Evidence to Impact: Shaping Resilient Education Futures". At the session, I will tackle the realities of adaptive education in the post-digital age. I plan to discuss how AI and big data should be used to identify gaps in educational access, the necessity of teaching media literacy to combat infodemics, and why we must train educators for human-machine collaboration that relies on practical wisdom rather than just automation.

Finally, drawing on my past experience as WERA and INASED President, I will share blueprints for bridging the gap between academia and policy so that local research innovations can drive real legislative action.

My time at the Sharjah International Summit on Improvement in Education has been deeply invigorating. In addition to delivering a masterclass and invited speech on AI and academic entrepreneurship, I had the privilege of participating in a high-level panel discussion titled "From the World to Sharjah and from Sharjah to the World."

At the panel, we moved beyond theory to discuss how evidence-informed research can directly support policymakers. The consensus was clear: for education to be "future-ready," we must align our research agendas with policy and practice, creating a reciprocal flow of knowledge between international bodies and local institutions.

It was an honor to represent WERA as a Past President alongside current President Liesel Ebersöhn and our colleagues in Sharjah. With over 10,000 participants from 33 countries, the summit proved that the future of education is collaborative and borderless.

I extend my deepest gratitude to the the entire SEA administration for their outstanding hospitality.

I am honored to announce that I will be speaking at the upcoming Sharjah International Summit on Improvement in Education. This event holds special significance as it is organized by the Sharjah Education Academy, a valued institutional member of the World Education Research Association (WERA).

On February 13, 2026, I will be joining my esteemed WERA colleagues, Liesel Ebersöhn and Joe O'Hara, for a Pre-Conference Masterclass at the Sharjah Education Academy, UAE.

Together, we will be discussing "Advancing High-Quality Research in Education," with a specific focus on standards, rigor, and global perspectives. At the session, I will be presenting on the topic: "Fostering Innovation Across Borders: A Glocal Research Roadmap for AI in Academic Entrepreneurship Education."

In an era where artificial intelligence is reshaping boundaries, adopting a "glocal" approach—bridging global standards with local nuances—is essential for the future of academic entrepreneurship.

It is marvellous to have the opportunity to engage with the research community in Sharjah and beyond, exploring how we can drive meaningful improvement in education systems worldwide.

Looking forward to a day of rigorous debate and insight.

Excited to share our latest research article, co-authored with my doctoral student, Mehmet Emrah Kuru. Published in the International Journal of Progressive Education, our study, "Reading Comprehension in AI-Supported Storytelling," investigates how 4th-grade students engage with tools like ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot during story creation.

We found that AI-supported storytelling scaffolds comprehension processes. It helps students recognize narrative structures and form strong empathetic connections with characters.

While students excelled in event-focused interpretation, "word consciousness" (vocabulary awareness) remained limited, suggesting that AI tools must be paired with explicit vocabulary instruction.

This research highlights that while AI is a promising pedagogical tool, teacher guidance remains essential for fostering critical engagement and vocabulary development.
