Circular Business and Digital Transformation - CBDT

Circular Business and Digital Transformation - CBDT Aligning with the United Nations’ Sustainability Development Goals, to achieve a better and more sustainable future, is the Circular Economy concept.

Taking place online on 25–26 May 2027, the conference focuses on the intersection of Circular Economy, Digital Transformation, Artificial Intelligence, Sustainable Finance, Entrepreneurship, Emerging Technologies, and Responsible Business. With issues such as climate change, unequal economic development, and exhaustion of non-renewable resources, affecting national economies and lives today, governments and organizations around the world have taken interest in addressing the challenges posing environmental, social and economic threats. It represents a significant alternative to the traditional linear economy as means of reducing pressure on the environment, boosting economic growth, using and reusing resources and materials for as long as possible. This concept encompasses and applies to other aspects and sectors such as energy efficiency, land management, tourism and more. However, the transition is quite challenging. It sheds new light on designing infrastructure using a greener model and other ways through which cleaner renewable energy and production can incorporate the circular economy model. It does not

This conference will also discuss the intersection between Circular Economy and emerging trends such as Artificial Intelligence as means of improving operation, design and infrastructure optimization. Emerging technologies are being used as a way of blurring the boundaries between all sectors for one main goal: reducing our negative impact on the environment by changing production processes. Understanding the need to inform and prepare individuals and organizations with the need to stay ahead, IEREK has organized the first International Conference on “Infrastructure for a Circular & Sustainable Economic Development” to be held in the University of Salento of Lecce, Italy. The conference will be a platform for all researchers, scientists, designers and planner, stakeholders, governmental officials, to be aware of the circular economy concept and it’s adaption in production and infrastructure leading to a more sustainable future. Throughout this 3-day content-filled event, the opportunity of networking with experts in the field and sharing experiences is maximized. IEREK invites you to join the journey towards a more sustainable future from 7 – 9 September 2021.

Think about it.

You don't always need to own something to benefit from it.

You can subscribe to a car instead of buying one.
Rent equipment instead of replacing it.
Pay for a service instead of owning the product behind it.

This changes more than the way customers pay.

It changes the way businesses design products, manage resources, maintain assets, and create long-term value.

Instead of making money when a product is sold and replaced, businesses can create value throughout its entire lifecycle.

That’s the idea behind Product-as-a-Service.

And it could be one of the most interesting shifts in the move toward circular business models.

So here's the question:
𝗪𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁 — 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗹𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀?

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗮 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗼 𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 “𝗪𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗲” 𝗕𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲?

The 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀 has set a national ambition to move toward a fully circular economy by 2050, with an intermediate goal of reducing the use of primary raw materials by 50% by 2030.

But the interesting part isn't the target.

It's how the country is trying to get there.

From circular construction and sustainable product design to resource efficiency and new business models, the Dutch approach treats circularity as something that has to happen across the entire economy — not inside one industry.

𝗔𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝗴𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻:
Can an economy grow while using fewer virgin resources?

The answer isn't simply about recycling more.

It's about changing how we design, produce, consume, build, and create value.

The Netherlands is one real-world example of what that transition can look like.

And this is exactly the kind of question explored through Circular Business and Digital Transformation: Resilience for a Regenerative Economy (CIBU) :

How can circular thinking and transformation reshape the way economies create value?

AI may look digital But behind every AI model are 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲𝘀:

And as AI adoption accelerates, so does the demand for the resources behind it.

Can AI help build a circular economy while depending on a highly resource-intensive system?

Maybe the real challenge isn't simply making AI smarter.

It's making the entire ecosystem around AI more circular.

This is where AI, digital transformation, resource efficiency, and circular business intersect and where new research can make a real difference.
