HOW LESSONS WORK IN LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL 🔬 📚

In Lower Secondary School (ages 11–14), we continue to use a variety of interactive learning activities. This helps students stay focused and engaged, while the curriculum becomes more challenging and allows them to explore topics in greater depth 🧠

Students work with subject-specific vocabulary, explore scientific processes and study particular topics in English. Gradually, they become more confident speaking, explaining their ideas and answering questions 🔬

This approach helps students move from a basic understanding of the language to using English more confidently in an academic environment 💬

🎉 GCSE EXAM RESULTS: SUMMER 2026 AT VIS 🎉

This exam session has once again demonstrated the high standard of preparation achieved by our students, and we are incredibly proud of their results. Behind every grade are months of hard work, dedication, and the support of the VIS academic team.

📌 IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is a prestigious international qualification based on British academic standards. Successful completion provides a recognised secondary education qualification accepted around the world.

🌍 This year, our students sat their exams in Istanbul (Turkey), Almaty (Kazakhstan), Cascais (Portugal), Riga (Latvia), Ho Chi Minh City (Vietnam), Dubai (UAE), and Athens (Greece).

Here are some of the results we are particularly proud of.

✅ English as a Second Language: 100% of our students achieved excellent results, receiving grades between 7 and 9 (A–A*).

✅ English Language A (First Language): 10% of our students took English as a First Language. This is a challenging examination designed for native-level speakers, and our school achieved one of its strongest results in this subject — a grade 7 (A), reflecting advanced skills in literary analysis and essay writing.

✅ Maths & Science: among the main group of students who successfully completed their examinations, one in three (33%) achieved the highest grades of 8 and 9 (A*) in Mathematics, while 50% achieved strong results of 8–7 (A*–A) and 7–7 (A–A) in Science.

GCSE grades range from 9 to 1, with grades 8 and 9 representing the highest level of achievement and broadly equivalent to an A*.

💙 Many of our students have been studying at VIS since primary school and continue with us through to their examination years. Their excellent results reflect years of consistent academic development, the building of a strong international academic foundation, and the development of essential examination skills.

Our goal is not simply to prepare each student for a particular examination, but to create an individual educational strategy that will support their journey towards admission to an international university. Seeing our students grow academically and celebrate their achievements is the greatest reward for all our shared work.

ECONOMIC SCIENCES AT VIS 💼📊

Business and Economics at VIS are designed for senior school students and are aimed at those ready to engage with more complex and abstract concepts. The subjects are taught as part of an international curriculum and combine theory with practical learning through real-world case studies, company analysis, data work and discussions of economic processes using clear, relatable examples.

This approach helps students understand how business decisions are made, how resources are allocated, and how the economy affects people’s lives and the development of countries.

By studying Business and/or Economics at GCSE and A-level, students prepare for international examinations and for admission to leading universities, particularly for degree programmes related to management, finance, marketing, economics and international relations.

📈 Business

In Business lessons, students explore how products and services are created and developed, and why some ideas succeed while others do not. We use case studies, discussions and project-based assignments in which students create business plans and marketing strategies, as well as analyse well-known companies.

Examples of topics include: Business Activity and the External Environment, Marketing and Customer Needs, and Business Finance.

💹 Economics

Students learn how prices are determined, why resources are allocated in different ways, what role governments play, and how economic decisions affect society.

Examples of topics include: Supply and Demand, Elasticity, and Market Structures.

Students learn to think strategically, identify causes and consequences, work confidently with information, and support their conclusions with clear arguments. These skills provide a strong foundation for further study in technical, economic, research and creative fields, and also prepare students to choose subjects such as Economics and Business for their A-level examinations 🎯

HOW DOES VIS TEACH STUDENTS TO THRIVE IN THE ONLINE WORLD? 💻🌐

No matter where a student continues their education or which career they choose in the future, digital literacy is one of the most important skills for life today. It is not enough simply to know how to use the internet — students also need to understand how to use online platforms safely, responsibly and effectively. That is why at VIS, we start developing digital skills from an early age 🔐

Learning at VIS takes place entirely online, so students gradually become confident using the learning platform and learn how to organise their work independently. They upload completed assignments, keep track of their timetable and take an active part in online lessons and meetings 🖥️

An important feature of the VIS platform is its analytics section. Here, students can view their results in real time through clear, easy-to-understand graphs, track their progress and compare their performance across different periods 📊

In addition, from the age of 7, students have dedicated Information Technology (IT) lessons. Topics covered include:

💚🎓 HOW TO APPLY TO VIS AND START YOUR STUDIES

Parents often ask us how the admissions process at VIS works and where to begin. Here’s a simple overview of the main steps.

1️⃣ Online interview

We carry out a comprehensive assessment of each pupil’s knowledge and skills.

For younger pupils: the focus is on cognitive skills such as memory, logic and imagination, as well as emotional intelligence, communication skills and readiness for online learning.

For older pupils: the focus is on academic English, including reading, grammar and speaking, as well as critical thinking and motivation.

2️⃣ Documents from the current school

To give us a complete picture of the pupil’s academic progress, we will need their most recent school report, transcript or another document showing their current academic attainment.

3️⃣ Entrance tests

Mathematics is assessed at all levels.

Pupils applying for the A-level programme are also required to take subject-specific entrance tests. This applies even though, at this stage, they will go on to choose three or four subjects to study in greater depth.

At every stage, the VIS team is there to support families and guide them through the process. Our aim is to make admissions as clear, straightforward and stress-free as possible for both parents and pupils.

🎓 ONE-TO-ONE LESSONS AT VIS: HOW DOES LEARNING ADAPT TO EACH STUDENT? ✨

One-to-one lessons at VIS offer a full alternative to group-based learning. Students work through the entire curriculum individually with a teacher, allowing the learning process to be tailored to their own academic goals and helping them achieve the results they are aiming for 🎒

The benefits of one-to-one learning:

✔ Families have full control over the timetable and can arrange lessons around their own commitments

✔ More time can be spent on challenging topics, without going over material the student already understands well

Ms. Anna is a qualified historian. She also completed an intensive language programme at a teacher-training university in China and demonstrated her high level of academic English by gaining a TOEFL certificate 🎓
