Today, on Emirati Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, compassion, determination and achievements of Emirati women across the UAE.
At Rising Sun, this day has a particularly special meaning. We celebrate women who have dedicated their lives to supporting People of Determination, women who have used their own experiences to advocate for greater understanding and inclusion, and Emirati Women of Determination whose achievements continue to inspire others.
We recognise Dr Michele Ziolkowski, whose personal journey as the mother of a son with autism has inspired her writing, advocacy and work to promote greater awareness and understanding. Her connection to Fujairah makes her story especially meaningful to us. Her book The Boy Who Knew the Mountains, inspired by her son Suhail, carries a powerful message about seeing the person, recognising their abilities and celebrating what makes each individual unique.
We also celebrate remarkable Emirati Women of Determination, including Fatma Al Jassim, who has become a strong voice for accessibility, inclusion and equal opportunities and Nadia Al Barouti, an artist and deaf advocate who has worked to empower other women, build confidence and encourage greater participation and independence.
These women remind us that inclusion is not simply about providing support. It is about recognising ability, creating opportunities, breaking barriers and ensuring that every person is valued, heard and given the chance to thrive.
On this special day, we also recognise the mothers, sisters, daughters, professionals, advocates and caregivers who work tirelessly every day to support People of Determination and help build a more inclusive community.
This year’s message of “Together, We Rise Stronger and Better” reflects something we believe deeply at Rising Sun, that when we support one another, value every individual and celebrate our differences, our whole community becomes stronger.
Happy Emirati Women’s Day from all of us at Rising Sun.
