Stop calling it a tantrum. Let’s talk about why toddlers scream.
Follow .ae before this reel disappear.
Most toddler tantrums are not about “being dramatic.”
They’re about nervous system overload and underdeveloped emotional regulation.
Toddlers scream because:
• Their brain can’t process big emotions yet
• Impulse control is still developing
• They lack language to express frustration
• Sensory overload feels overwhelming
The prefrontal cortex (self-control center) is immature in early childhood.
So expecting calm logic during stress is unrealistic.
Screaming is often a regulation struggle — not a discipline problem.
Instead of asking:
“Why are you acting like this?”
Ask:
“What skill are you still learning?”
When we understand toddler development, we respond differently.
