What a way to round off an amazing first week.

Today, our staff explored adaptive teaching - how we respond to the individual needs of every learner. From children who may need additional support at different points in their learning, to our more able, highly able and exceptionally able learners, we looked at how we create the right level of support, challenge and opportunity for everyone.

It has been such an exciting week getting to know the teachers and staff who are going to bring Ash Mount to life. The energy, ideas and commitment have been incredible.

And now… time for a little rest, relaxation and our very first staff social to an escape room! 🔐🧩

Can we grow food from food? 🌱☕

A few months ago, this was a question we explored with our community. Now, as Ash Mount gets ready to open, we are beginning to put that inquiry into action.

Today I met with Reinier, one of the owners of WOFL at Mudon Community Centre, to talk about a simple local partnership with real purpose.

WOFL will be sharing their used coffee grounds with us so that we can begin composting at Ash Mount, supporting our planting, food growing, green spaces and the early development of our Forest School area.

This is exactly the kind of learning we want for our children: asking questions, making connections and discovering how small actions can make a difference.

Day 5 ⭐

While our staff have been busy learning this week, their children have been pretty busy too!

As part of our staff childcare programme, they had the chance to spend time with STAR Sport Academies, one of our academy partners, playing, learning new skills and, judging by those medals, having a brilliant time.

We’re really excited about this partnership. STAR will be bringing football, basketball, volleyball, badminton and gymnastics to Ash Mount, giving our children even more opportunities to try something new, develop their skills and find the activities they love. (Star Sport Academies⁠)

Day 4 at Ash Mount 💚

As our staff induction continues, different teams are beginning to dig deeper into the areas that will shape learning across the school.

Our Primary English leaders have been working with Read Write Inc., strengthening our approach to early reading and ensuring children develop the skills and confidence they need from the very beginning.

At the same time, our Secondary team has been working with Unifrog, thinking much further ahead, exploring how we help students understand themselves, discover future pathways and prepare for life beyond Ash Mount.

From the foundations of reading to future choices and possibilities, every stage matters.

Day 3 at Ash Mount 💚

This week began with who we are as a learning community — our vision, mission, values and the beliefs that will shape the way we learn together.

Today, we have been exploring the conditions that help learners thrive: wellbeing, relationships, behaviour for learning, culture and belonging.

Because inquiry, agency and meaningful learning can only flourish when children feel safe, secure, known and connected.

We have also been unpacking our vision:

Learn with Purpose. Live with Compassion. Lead with Courage.

What does that actually mean in practice?

What will we see in our classrooms?
What will we hear in the way children and adults communicate?
What will it feel like to be part of a community that is curious, reflective, open-minded and ready to take action?

And a little sneak preview… our team has also been writing their first letters to the children, ready to share through Madrasa very soon.

A chance to introduce themselves, share what they believe about learning, and begin building those relationships before the first day even arrives.

Because at Ash Mount, learning starts with connection and our learning community is already taking shape.

Today, our staff logged into Madrasa for the first time, the digital home that will connect our learning, communication and community.

First the staff… next, our families.

Soon parents will receive their own access and begin to see Ash Mount appearing on their screens: messages, updates, learning and all those important first moments as we prepare to open our doors.

Each day, something new becomes real.
Each day, our community feels a little closer.
