Last Thursday, we hosted our Annual Awards Ceremony, an evening dedicated to celebrating the students of DIS through storytelling, music, and words of appreciation.

As we reflected on the challenges and obstacles of the past year, we also celebrated the small victories and the big ones. Awards were presented in recognition of hard work, achievement, character, and talent.

We heard from our dedicated teachers and leaders and were even treated to an Oliver! reprise. It was a truly fabulous evening, and we congratulate all award winners, parents, and teachers on an outstanding year.

Thank you to the entire DIS community for making this celebration so special.

“What a truly special evening celebrating our Class of 2026. As each student crossed the stage, they carried with them years of dedication, growth, and unforgettable experiences.
This cohort has left a lasting impression on our school through their kindness, determination, and strong sense of community. While we will miss them greatly, I am incredibly proud of all they have achieved and confident in the paths they are about to take. Congratulations, Class of 2026. Your journey is only just beginning.” - Mrs Helen Wallis

“As we celebrated the Class of 2026, I was reminded that education is about far more than exam results and qualifications.

This year presented challenges that no one could have predicted. Yet in the face of uncertainty, our students demonstrated remarkable resilience, supporting one another, adapting to change, and refusing to let circumstances define them.

What stood out most was the power of character. Empathy, resilience and positivity are not just qualities that help young people succeed at school; they are the traits that will enable them to make a meaningful difference in the world beyond it.

A sincere thank you to our parents, staff, board members and the wider community whose support helped our students navigate an extraordinary year. Success is never achieved alone.

To the Class of 2026: we are incredibly proud of what you have achieved and, even more importantly, of the people you have become. The future belongs to those who can face challenge with courage, care for others, and continue moving forward with optimism.

Congratulations, Class of 2026. We can’t wait to see what comes next.” - Mrs Emma Hannon

“My first graduation at DIS was a truly special occasion. Celebrating, in such a stunning setting, the achievements of this remarkable group of young people, alongside their families, teachers, and friends, was both a privilege and an inspiration.

They have left a permanent legacy as role models within the school and as they leave DIS to pursue exciting opportunities around the world, they do so with knowledge, character, and the DIS values to make a positive difference. We are immensely proud of all they have accomplished and look forward to following their future successes.” - Mr Ian Thurston

Student Spotlight: Turning Vision into Victory

What started as a simple idea at a local park during online learning has grown into a thriving competitive sports team. Adam, a Year 11 student, transformed an informal group of players into UTN Elite, a team now competing in the Jazzville League and currently sitting third on the ladder.

Demonstrating entrepreneurship, creativity, and leadership, Adam developed the team’s brand identity, secured league entry, manages its social media platforms, and oversees its finances. Through this experience, he has applied classroom learning in a real-world setting, developing valuable skills in marketing, branding, communication, and project management.

With ambitions to continue growing the team and creating opportunities for more young athletes, Adam’s journey is a powerful example of initiative, determination, and leadership in action.

Dear DIS Class of 2026 parents...

03/06/2026

They care for us every day.
They greet us, support us, and help our school run smoothly.
Now, it’s our turn to give back.

Led by the Primary and Secondary Student Councils, the “They Care, We Share” Community Collection Drive brings our whole school community together to show our appreciation for the dedicated members of our support team, including our security staff, bus drivers, cleaners, maintenance team, and support staff.

Together, we can make a difference—one act of kindness at a time.

You care, we share. ❤️

From Early Years to IB2, the Class of 2026 represents a true DIS legacy.

At the playground where it all began, holding their very first Early Years photos, these moments beautifully capture just how far they’ve come. From their earliest days in Early Years to now standing as confident IB2 students, their journey has been filled with growth, friendships, and unforgettable memories at DIS.

We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them and grateful to have been part of their story. Counting down to graduation. 🎓

Deira International School had the pleasure of welcoming leaders from across the UAE for the fourth and final NPQSL session, facilitated by Mr Lomas and Mrs Dale.

The session focused on budgeting and governance both critical areas of effective school leadership. Discussions explored the importance of strategic financial planning to ensure resources are aligned to school priorities and ultimately improve outcomes for students. Alongside this, leaders reflected on the role of strong governance in creating accountability, maintaining clear strategic direction, and ensuring schools remain values driven in their decision making.

We were also delighted to welcome Kevin Loft, who shared his extensive experience and perspective on school governance. His insights provided participants with a valuable understanding of how governors can effectively support and challenge school leaders, helping to drive school improvement and maintain a clear focus on delivering the best possible outcomes for students.

The afternoon then shifted towards preparation for the final assessment in October, with participants collaborating, reflecting on their learning journey, and refining their leadership thinking.

It has been fantastic to see leaders from a range of schools working together throughout the programme, sharing experiences and continuing to develop their leadership practice.

Wishing all participants the very best as they move towards the final stage of their NPQSL journey.
