What if nobody told them how to play?

Sometimes all they need is the time and space to find out for themselves. To pour, mix, carry, tip, splash, get wonderfully messy and go back to something again and again simply because they’re not finished with it yet.

That’s what I love watching at our Sensory Stay & Play mornings. There is no end result we’re trying to reach, just time to explore together and follow curiosity wherever it happens to wander.

And with this beautiful weather finally arriving, being outside together feels particularly lovely.

Sometimes solving a problem is as simple as drilling a few holes. It still takes time, makes a mess and needs cleaning up afterwards. There’s always a lot more behind the finished setup than the before and after you see on Instagram.

A little glimpse behind the scenes, although the picture probably makes it look far calmer than it actually feels.

Starting again is exciting and scary in fairly equal measure. Some days I’m full of ideas and can’t wait to see where all of this goes and other days I wonder what on earth I’m doing.

I’m figuring things out as I go, asking for help when I need it and trying to give myself the same time and space I’ve spent years telling everyone else is so important.

There are good days and harder days and absolutely no beautifully mapped out plan yet. Just lots of curiosity, a few people I trust on speed dial and a willingness to keep playing with what comes next.
