Middlesex University (MDX) Dubai is the first overseas campus of the internationally renowned Middlesex University London. Since opening in 2005, it has grown to become the largest British KHDA higher education institution in Dubai. The Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the UAE’s Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) granted MDX Dubai its initial institutional license, reflecting the university’s commitment to the highest standards of academic quality and governance. The university offers foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate, and MBA programmes across a wide range of disciplines, and was the first to offer a face-to-face LLB (British Qualifying Law) degree in Dubai. MDX Dubai is a global university dedicated to supporting the ambitions of a culturally and internationally diverse student body through challenging academic programmes, innovative research, grants, and professional practice. Students benefit from studying in the heart of Dubai, with cutting-edge facilities across multiple campuses. The primary campus in Dubai Knowledge Park features high-tech classrooms, the Icon Studio fashion lab, MDX Studios film lab, Sports Performance lab, RoboTechx lab, VRx lab, and more. The second campus in Dubai International Academic City (DIAC) serves as the MBA Global Study Hub, offering state-of-the-art facilities for MBA students. MDX Dubai offers two main intakes in September and January, with an additional April intake for the MBA (Daytime Delivery) programme and the International Foundation Programme (IFP).

Middlesex University Dubai extends its deepest condolences to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and to the Al Maktoum family on the passing of Sheikh Ahmed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Our thoughts are with the people of the UAE during this time of mourning.

Our Computer Engineering and Informatics undergraduate students, Aiman Waheed, Mary Camille Bognot and Nikoloz Khorkheli, placed first in the School of Cyber Defense CTF Challenge as Team Unlisted!

Taking place during GISEC, the competition brought together more than 400 students and 350 teams from universities across the UAE, with just seven teams progressing to the final.

Mentored by Dr Maha Saadeh and Dr Engie Bashir from the MDX Dubai CEI department, the team demonstrated their skills across a series of cybersecurity challenges before securing the top spot.

Following the main CTF and presentations, Aiman represented the team as captain in a bonus quiz round, also securing first place.

For winning the CTF Challenge, the team received a combined prize of AED 12,500, along with medals and a trophy. They also received AirPods, power banks and other gadgets for winning the bonus quiz.

The win also puts a spotlight on cybersecurity at MDX Dubai. The university has dedicated Cyber Security programmes offered within the Computer Engineering and Informatics subject area, including Bsc Hons Cyber Security and Digital Forensics.

Congratulations to Umer Farhan, Middlesex University Dubai student from the Class of 2026, on winning the 2026 James Dyson Award UAE for VenaLume! 🏆

VenaLume tackles a problem many of us have faced: difficult IV insertions and repeated needle attempts. Using infrared light and smart image-processing, the device reveals hard-to-see veins in real time, offering a more affordable alternative to existing vein visualisation technology.

Umer's motivation for VenaLume is personal - his own experience with difficult venous access sparked the idea, driving him to engineer a solution for patients and healthcare professionals everywhere. The project was developed under the supervision of Dr Sumitra Kotipalli, with support from the MDX Innovation Hub (MIH) and the STARS Lab, under the Centre of Excellence for Foresight and Emerging Technologies (CEFET) at MDX Dubai.

"Winning the UAE James Dyson Award is an incredible recognition of how far VenaLume has come," Umer shared. "My goal now is to take the technology into clinical trials, continue refining the hardware, and ultimately create an affordable device that can help make successful first-time IV insertion more achievable for patients and healthcare professionals around the world."
