This IELTS candidate wrote a beautiful essay and got Band 5. The prompt was a discussion question. They wrote an opinion essay. Task Response capped before the first paragraph was done. Identify the question type before you write a single sentence, or nothing else you do matters.

Most Band 6 IELTS body paragraphs have the P and the L from PEEL. They're missing the Explain, and the Example isn't doing any real work. Restoring both is what turns a stated claim into a developed argument.

Repeating the IELTS prompt instead of paraphrasing it loses you marks before the examiner finishes your first sentence.
Swapping "think" for "believe" isn't paraphrasing - it's a one-word swap. Real paraphrasing changes structure and vocabulary.
