Bushra steps into the world of this radio adaptation as Zenobie — headstrong, perceptive, and unwilling to surrender to denial. Through her, Vian’s message cuts deeper, sharper, louder.

And this is only the beginning.

In our Autumn 2026 stage production, Bushra will transform once again into a character layered with twists, turns, and unexpected shadows. One performer. Two journeys. Infinite dimensions. 🎭

At Startoo/Acttoo, characters are never just played — they are unearthed.

SUAD Theatre Group presents a French-language radio play: Boris Vian’s The
Empire Builders published in 1959. SONGS LEAD. TEXT USHERS.
Celebrating Vian’s music first and foremost, the script is used to lead into his
melodies in a unique sonic setting of his haunting, absurdist play.
Discover the jazz man and author’s songs, framed by an abridged version of the
play, in which a family terrorized by a sound flees up a building into increasingly
smaller apartments, and in which they always encounter a mysteriously silent
figure.
We share this audio creation while we wait to be reunited with our dear
community next October, when we stage our full-length show at Zayed Theatre.

We wish everyone safety in light of events impacting our community. We have changed our season plan, offering registrants free and light acting sessions spanning 3 weeks, pending on safety protocols in the UAE. Contact us for details on [email protected].

On 23 November, teens took over the rooftop of Jameel Arts Centre for a free theatre workshop as part of Down to Earth – UAE’s annual green gathering.

Together we:
• turned simple cloth into shifting landscapes and creatures
• explored creative movement, play, and teamwork
• devised a short presentation using a parachute 🪂

Huge love to everyone who showed up with open minds, curious hearts, and a willingness to look twice at “ordinary” things. You made the rooftop feel alive. 💚

Directed by Sol Abiad, in collaboration with Yaraqa × Hiba Art Project at Jaddaf Waterfront, Dubai.

Until the next story we create together… 🎭

Celebrated actors Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are real-life friends who are starring on Broadway as two friends searching for meaning in an absurd world. Waiting for Godot is the greatest play ever written about nothing. Nothing and everything. But mostly nothing. Seriously, nothing happens.

Directed by Tony® and Olivier Award-winning visionary Jamie Lloyd (Sunset Blvd., A Doll’s House, Betrayal), this exhilarating, hilarious and deeply human new production of Samuel Beckett’s self-proclaimed “tragicomedy” asks all of life’s big questions—and answers none of them. It’s ridiculous! Life, and this play. But the wait is worth the wait.

“They keep climbing. But where does the ladder lead?”

In The Empire Builders by Boris Vian, the walls close in, the air thickens, and the need to “go up” becomes unbearable. Startoo Theatre dives into this absurdist masterpiece with nothing but sheets, sticks, shadows, and the will to confront the unspoken.

Directed by Sol Abiad, this production strips away the comfort of realism — revealing the fragile scaffolding beneath our civilized facades.

Join us for a journey into the surreal — where progress, fear, and denial play musical chairs in a room that keeps shrinking.
