Former Punjab Health Minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has created beautiful hand embroidery on pillows and sofa cushions during her imprisonment.
Dr Yasmin Rashid herself has titled the embroidery collection “Beyond The Bars.” The 76-year-old detained PTI leader and renowned gynaecologist celebrates her birthday on 21 September. Another of her talents and artistic skills that emerged on social media that day left people amazed.
During her imprisonment, Dr Yasmin Rashid used needles and threads of different colours to create such beautiful embroidery on pillows and sofa cushions that viewers were left astonished.
The embroidery features elephants, horses, owls and beautiful cats, while birds appear to sip nectar from flowers and butterflies hover over blossoms.
Mountains, vines, floral patterns and bouquets show that Dr Yasmin Rashid has spread all the colours of the spring within her across the pillows and sofa cushions. Dr Yasmin Rashid has given each of her creations a separate title.
She writes that the work was created behind bars, not in a studio; every stitch is a symbol of patience and every colour a ray of hope. When it feels as though time has stopped and the hands, mind and soul are completely empty, a creation made at such a moment becomes one’s greatest support.
When circumstances are beyond one’s control, creativity itself provides solace. A person should have unwavering faith that beauty will emerge even in the most difficult circumstances. PTI leader Dr Yasmin Rashid has also written a book in jail, which will be published soon.
