Iran has agreed to restart the long-delayed oil and gas pipeline project with Pakistan, marking a renewed push toward regional energy cooperation.
Renewed Diplomatic Momentum
The understanding was reached during recent diplomatic engagements between the two countries. Moreover, both sides expressed interest in strengthening long-term energy connectivity and economic relations.
Project Stalled for Years
The pipeline project has remained pending for several years due to international sanctions and financing constraints. However, recent discussions indicate movement toward phased implementation.
Focus on Energy Security
Officials emphasized that the revival aims to improve regional energy security. In addition, it could help stabilize long-term supply conditions and strengthen bilateral trade ties.
Potential Economic Impact
Energy analysts suggest the project may help Pakistan diversify its energy imports. At the same time, it could open new export channels for Iran, depending on technical and financial progress.
Next Phase of Discussions
Further technical consultations are expected in the coming weeks. Consequently, both sides are likely to focus on implementation frameworks and funding mechanisms moving forward.

Pakistan captain Fatima Sana has become the first Pakistani cricketer to be selected for the women’s edition of The Hundred after Birmingham Phoenix picked her in Thursday’s wildcard draft.
The Pakistan captain and all-rounder has taken up the Phoenix’s fourth overseas slot, which had opened up after Cricket Australia withdrew Lucy Hamilton in order to manage her workload.
Sana will earn the tournament’s minimum salary of £15,000 (approximately 5.6 million PKR), although her participation may be limited due to Pakistan’s scheduled tour of Sri Lanka from July 23 to August 4.
Her selection comes just hours after a standout all-round performance in Pakistan’s narrow defeat to South Africa at Edgbaston, the Phoenix’s home ground. Sana top-scored with an unbeaten 55 off 38 balls from No. 8, before taking 3 for 16 as South Africa edged home with two wickets in hand.
Sana becomes the third Pakistan player to secure a contract in The Hundred this year. She joins Usman Tariq at Birmingham Phoenix, while mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed is set to represent Sunrisers Leeds after being signed for £190,000 at March’s auction.
His inclusion has eased concerns that Pakistan players could be sidelined under the tournament’s new Indian ownership structure.
Elsewhere in the wildcard draft, several players from the Women’s T20 World Cup secured deals. Each franchise signed two men’s and two women’s players on minimum contracts to complete their squads.

A significant reduction in prices of petroleum products is expected from June 20, according to media reports.
Citing a working paper prepared by the Petroleum Division, OGRA and PSO, the reports said that petrol and other petroleum products could become cheaper by more than Rs55 per litre.
They said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the Petroleum Minister to reverse the impact of the March 7 price increase, after expressing dissatisfaction over the earlier hike.
Officials are reportedly exploring options to implement the reduction, with discussions ongoing within relevant departments on how to adjust prices in line with global trends.
The move comes amid a sharp decline in international crude oil prices, with Arab Light crude reportedly falling by $16 in a week to around $80 per barrel.
Industry sources said oil marketing companies have become active over the proposed cuts, with some lobbying for a phased reduction instead of a single large decrease of Rs55 per litre.
