Copywriters don't NEED to work on performance to get clients. Yes, it can sometimes help to get a prospect's attention. But here's something they don't tell you. Only brokies are happy to offer rev share. Rich businesses would rather pay you a premium and keep all the upside.

This is a true story. A business owner's revenue while working with a copywriter: $29,732.51. His revenue after replacing the copywriter: $53.493. I know both the copywriter and the marketer who replaced him.

With few exceptions, the only time you'll get fired by a client is when you're not producing a return on their investment. Your job isn't to write words. You job is to make the client money.

The more you focus on money, the less money you make. Money is a byproduct of being good at what you do. Do you think good copywriters struggle to get clients?

Be intentional and take a little time to get good at a skill before you sell it as a service. This will make you more money in the long run.

A perfect example of this: Choosing to freelance instead of working in-house at an agency or a business. Working in- house gives you time to learn the ropes and home your skills. Then, after a year or two, if you want to freelance, you'll be in a much better position.
