The affective filter is like an emotional screen in our minds. If we feel anxious, unmotivated, or lack confidence when learning a new language, this screen goes "up," blocking us from truly understanding and taking in new information. When we feel relaxed, confident, and motivated, the screen goes "down," allowing us to absorb and learn more effectively.
