Exploring Young Minds and !

Recently kicked off an AI provocation with our Grade 5 students to understand their current knowledge and mindset around Artificial Intelligence. Using Mentimeter, we collected some amazing responses that gave us insight into how they perceive AI today.

Before diving deeper into the unit, it’s essential to reflect on where to focus: ensuring students develop a balanced perspective on AI and understand that while AI is powerful, it does not replace the creativity, emotions, and critical thinking of the human brain.

Sharing a few of their responses from Mentimeter has been eye-opening… their curiosity, ideas, and reflections remind us how important it is to guide young learners in thinking critically and responsibly about technology.

One of the most beautiful parts of teaching is listening to our students – their reflections, their feelings, and their hopes for what comes next. 💡

In our Grade 1 music class, students shared their:
🎯 Challenges
🎉 Successes
🌟 Wishes for the next class

This simple reflection turned into something powerful:
💬 Students felt their voice mattered.
🎼 They felt safe, connected, and proud of their learning.
🎶 It gave me clear insight to make learning more effective and meaningful.

This is what the IB philosophy is all about – developing agency, reflection, and ownership of learning. Students become co-creators of their journey, not just participants. 🌈

As a facilitator, I value creating spaces where students feel heard, celebrated, and confident. Because when learners feel empowered, their growth is deeper, richer, and truly their own. 💛

Our Grade 2 learners are exploring how music connects us to different cultures. We started with a gallery walk of celebrations from around the world, and now students are asking powerful questions to guide their research:

🎶 What instruments are used in different countries?
🎉 How many celebrations does each country have?
🎵 Do different countries have different songs?
💜 Can music and feelings bring people together?

We love watching curiosity lead the way! 🌍💡

Today, we successfully wrapped up concerts across all grades!
An incredible collaboration by our dedicated music team brought each performance to life, showcasing a powerful culmination of learning through music. The joy on our students’ faces and the proud smiles from parents said it all — a true celebration of talent, teamwork, and inquiry.

Kudos to my amazing team and, of course, our brilliant students — you made it magical!

🚀 AI is Powerful, But Teachers Are Irreplaceable! 🧠✨

AI can assist in lesson planning, grading, and personalized learning, but can it truly replace a teacher? Never!

✅ AI can analyze data, but it can’t feel emotions.
✅ AI can suggest solutions, but it can’t mentor and inspire.
✅ AI can generate lessons, but it can’t create meaningful connections.

At the core of education is the human touch—the encouragement, creativity, and adaptability that only a teacher can bring. AI is a tool, but the human brain will always lead the way!

A student started tapping a pencil on different surfaces. Instead of stopping them, I asked:
🔎 “What do you hear?”

What followed? A student-led discovery of timbre and sound quality—an entire lesson sparked by curiosity! 🚀

Inquiry isn’t just about asking questions—it’s about giving students the space to explore, experiment, and connect learning to the real world.

Just wrapped up an insightful virtual session on the PYP Framework for Single Subject Teachers at Bishop Mackenzie International School
It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with educators from diverse backgrounds, discussing how specialist subjects can meaningfully connect with the IB PYP framework.

From concept-driven learning to transdisciplinary connections, we explored ways to enrich student experiences beyond the homeroom. Grateful for the shared perspectives, thoughtful discussions, and collaborative spirit!
