Why does swelling happen in just one single spot? 🧐

Unlike general gum disease, localized swelling is caused by micro-problems in a specific area. In his case, a slight open contact was acting like a ‘food plunger,’ forcing debris deep under the gum line and creating hard, subgingival deposits that standard brushing couldn’t reach.

Because my schedule was tight and I refuse to rush complex procedures, we took a strategic approach:

Taking antibiotics or painkillers for a swollen jaw? Here is why it will never fully solve the problem! 🚨💊

When a patient presents with sudden facial or jaw swelling, their first instinct is often to reach for antibiotics. While these medications can temporarily help control the systemic spread of bacteria, they cannot physically cure the source of the infection.

Why? Because the root cause of the swelling is trapped deep inside the dead root canal system of the tooth.

Once a tooth pulp becomes necrotic (dies), it loses its blood supply. Without blood flow inside the tooth, the antibiotics you swallow cannot actually reach the bacteria hiding inside the root! The medication circulates through your body, but it can’t pe*****te the tooth itself. 🧪❌

As a dentist, I see this all the time. The patient self-medicates, the swelling goes down slightly, but the moment they stop the pills, the infection flares right back up—sometimes even worse than before.

The ONLY way to permanently cure a dental infection and make a swollen jaw heal is to physically remove the source of the bacteria. This means either performing a thorough root canal treatment to clean the inside of the tooth, or extracting it if it’s completely non-restorable.
