When dental school prepares you for everything except competing with spiritual healers. 💀

A patient told me their toothache was cured for two years by a scholar’s prayers. I asked if they wanted me to try doing dum on them today. I had to laugh and explain: I can drill, fill, and extract, but I definitely don’t have the qualifications for spiritual interventions!

Clinically speaking, that nerve just went dormant and finally decided to wake up. Back to reality and back to the dental chair! 🪥

What you CAN’T see can still cause sensitivity.

A recent patient was dealing with sharp, stubborn sensitivity on an upper molar. From the outside, the tooth looked perfectly fine, but a hidden cavity was lurking right beneath the surface.

This happens because decay can slip past the tough outer enamel through tiny grooves or tight spaces between your teeth. Once it hits the softer inner layer (dentin), it exposes pathways straight to the nerve. That’s exactly what triggers that sudden “bite” from hot, cold, or sweet food. ☕️🍦

“My only request: I don’t want a crown.” 🙅‍♂️

For years, this patient hid their smile. After an old root canal, their upper left premolar turned dark. It became their biggest insecurity, but they absolutely did not want to shave their healthy tooth down for a fake cap.

They almost didn’t come in because they didn’t even know another option existed!
