๐ฑ I never really believed in New Year resolutions because if something matters, we donโt need a date to begin. We can start anytime.
But this year feels different.
โจ Iโm stepping into an exciting new job.
โจ Iโve launched Start Young parent events.
โจ And thereโs so much quietly (and excitingly) brewing behind the scenes.
Looking ahead to 2026, I want to encourage our kids to think like entrepreneurs - to create, to explore, to believe in their ideas.
Becauseโฆ why not?
So instead of a resolution, Iโm choosing intention.
What are you stepping into this year?

๐I donโt normally recommend books easily, but this one was life changing.
BJ Foggโs Tiny Habits
Iโve applied it to several areas in my life, including teaching our kids life skills.
Itโs SO SIMPLE.
๐ ATTACH new habit to everyday routine.
๐ฑ Start it SMALL.
๐ CELEBRATE small wins.
๐ ๏ธ Make the habit so simple and easy, so itโs hard NOT to do it.
As a busy parent of three kids, I am always short of time. Hence, I teach our kids when the OPPORTUNITY OCCURS!
Follow to learn how this can be easily applied to teaching kids financial literacy.

โจ I recently spoke to a group of parents about teaching kids Financial Literacy.
As always, I started with this question:
โRaise your hand if you were ever taught financial literacy?โ
Not one hand went up.
There was a pauseโฆ then one parent whispered:
โThis is scary - how are we supposed to teach something we were never taught?โ
Hereโs what I told her: Start small.
Next time you give your child allowance, ask them:
๐ โHow much will you save today?โ
That one question can spark a HABIT, a MINDSET, and a FUTURE.
Follow for more simple tips that make a big difference.

I will be honest - the one thing that I am struggling with is making this whole topic exciting to teach! ๐
Donโt get me wrong, spending time together, chatting away with our kids are the highlights of it.
But the minute I start gentle โtutoringโ them in the middle of the mall - thereโs always a yawn ๐ฅฑ, looking up at the ceiling ๐ and โbut mummyyyyyyโ every other second and BOOM theyโre running away!
Letโs admit, this is not the most exciting topic to teachโฆ
But it isnโt exciting without knowing these things later in life.
Iโve only recently learnt how to negotiate and I wish my parents would have taught me the art of negotiation when I was young.
Hence, I donโt โpushโ the topics and I know these things will take time to learn. And being conscious of every learning opportunity - is a good place to be โบ๏ธ

Your secret is actually a secret of so many of usโฆ
When I realized, I want to start teaching our kids about MONEY, I didnโt know where to start so I Googled, ChatGBTโed, read more then 30 books and about the same amount of research papers.
Guess what?
It confused me even more!!! ๐ตโ๐ซ
Being a busy parent, I decided I will teach our kids whenever thereโs an opportunity to do so. I will approach everyday life situations as an opportunity to teach & improve my own habits!
I am sharing my journey. It may not work for everyone, but even if I help one family, thatโs good enough for me โค๏ธ

โจ Financial literacy is not a one off lesson or a set of them - it is a lifelong learning process.
It is also not about complex Math skills, rather very basic arithmetic.
Itโs not the most โinterestingโ topic to teach or learn and it can be very โdryโ and boring.
Therefore, I believe in embedding financial literacy lessons in your daily life, so you donโt need to come out of your way to build good financial habits and disciplines in your children.

Iโve got a little secret to share... My kids are total money disasters! It stings even more since I put in so much effort to teach them, yet they spend their allowance as soon as they get it.
Yet, I continue to give them weekly allowance and every-time they spend it on complete trash, I try and convince myself, they will eventually learn ๐ Because, letโs face it, understanding money isnโt a one-day deal! I remind my kids (and my husband!) of this all the time! ๐
I really want them to invest, but wow, thatโs a tough sell! Kids donโt exactly have the patience for waiting to see their money grow. Instant rewards are way more their style!๐
When I catch them spending on things Iโd never buy, I have to hold back my frustration (no swearing, I promise!). Instead, I try to turn those moments into lessonsโfor them and for me!
Positive language works wonders. I want them to feel trusted and confident in their choices. Even if I have to say โNO,โ I make sure to explain why.
๐ Hereโs a phrase we use to help them pause before buying:
โWhy not add this to your birthday list for next year?โ This teaches them to wait and plan for something bigger.
Or, Iโll ask, โCan you find this somewhere else? Is there a cheaper option?โ This gets them thinking about the bigger picture, like comparing prices before deciding.
If this helped you out, let me know! I really want to hear from you. And donโt forget to FOLLOW for more tips and inspiration!

Iโve been giving allowance to both of our kids in cash on weekly basis. I have to admit, it wasnโt always convenient (whoโs using cash these days ๐คช). Itโs great for them to learn how the money โgrowsโ or โreducesโ with cash, but as a parent, it has become almost like a chore - withdraw the money, get the change etc.
So I decided to look at alternatives for Ayaan. Heโs now 9 years old, had exposure to cash & I think he is ready for that next step (at least I hope he is ready๐ค).
Iโve been following for a while. I was impressed with how easy it was to open the account. There were couple of small โhiccupsโ with the app & when activating the card but nothing we couldnโt get sorted.
Ayaan is looking forward to using his card - he already set the savingsโ target (which is another great feature!) & requested an increase in his allowance (really cool โrequest moneyโ feature that he loves using ๐ซฃ- letโs hope it doesnโt become a habit ๐คช).
All in all, it gives him the sense of increased responsibility & entering a โgrown upโ world. Wish me luck ๐
