While writing her children's book series on , our co-founder Ivana B. Ogbu kept asking herself this :

"How can I create value that enables a child, even for a split second, to experience connectedness and oneness with all life on Earth?"

This profound question stems from the realization that our educational systems have focused on developing our mental capacities and have largely ignored the of our # body and the ability to to and .

When we Raise Change Makers we raise children who think expansively, we encourage questioning, we welcome their challenges to our authority (this gets harder for us as Parents and Educators as they grow and mature!) we cultivate their natural human tendency for problem-solving (a human tendency that is universal to all of us!).
Change Makers who shake things up, challenge the status quo and break down the systems of oppression that seek to divide and conquer. Movements of justice, liberation, equality are intrinsically links to the sustainability movement and a sustainable way of life.
When there is more equality then of course there will be more for everyone; when richer nations take responsibility for their ethical and environmental impact by no longer exploiting poor countries then the 3 pillars of sustainability will be closer than ever.

Peace externally can only come from the peace we cultivate in our own hearts, we know this intuitively, however why is this so hard to practise? Noticing and observing (with self-compassion) when we seem to be losing our way from our intended path of peace is the first step. The 'argument' we really don't need to continue, having the 'last word' to prove a point, shaming our partner or child when they have made a mistake. We can acknowledge when we lose our way, apologise and find a daily practice that helps us identify situations thatvtake us away from our true selves, who we truly seek to be.

A journal prompt like this one can be a beautiful way of starting to unpack the baggage we come with, gentle self-enquiry. No shame, just observing ourselves.

The most important inner work we do might be cultivating peace, within our hearts and out in the world through our repeated daily actions.

Peace education mirrors the Sustainable Development Goals perfectly; a just, healthy and more equal world is not possible without starting with peace as our foundation.

How can I practise kindess to the environment today? Picking up litter in the park, turning down our ac, using public transport whenever we can - there are a multitude of ways that we can help the environment. Every positive action that we take has a positive impact on our children.

When we set our intention to make a difference, then anything becomes possible.

Cultivating our child's connection and relationship with nature and the natural world is as important as cultivating human relationships. Quite simply, if we 'fall in love with nature' (the earlier the better but it's never too late!) then we will want to protect it, nurture it, advocate for it.
