Being the person everyone can depend on can become a very lonely way to lead.
There is a particular kind of success where you are no longer struggling to make things work.
You are struggling with how much of everything still seems to require you.
The decisions.
The emotional weight.
The standards.
The people.
The consequences.
And because you have been capable for so long, it can be difficult to recognize that the problem is no longer capability.
It is structure.
At some point, leadership asks you to examine not just what you are capable of carrying, but what your way of carrying things is teaching everyone around you to expect.
That includes your team.
Your family.
Your closest relationships.
And eventually, the people who will inherit what you built.
The real question is not how much more you can accomplish.
It is:
Who are you becoming in the process, and will the people who come after you inherit only what you built or also the way you learned to live?
