Instrumental Sounds Day in EYFS1A

Our children explored instrumental sounds as part of Phase 1 Phonemic Awareness, an essential foundation of the EYFS Literacy curriculum. Through tapping, shaking, playing and listening carefully, they strengthened key skills such as sound discrimination, attention, and auditory memory. These experiences support early reading by helping children tune into the sounds around them before learning letter–sound correspondences. The activity also linked beautifully to Communication & Language and Expressive Arts & Design, giving our little learners the chance to explore music, express themselves and enjoy learning through play.

Learning about numbers through play in EYFS2

Our EYFS2 children have been exploring counting to 5 through practical, hands-on experiences. Rather than simply saying the numbers, the children had opportunities to count real objects, match quantities to numerals and check their counting carefully. There was lots of talking, thinking and helping one another as the children explored “How many?”, “Can you find 5?” and “How do you know?” These playful experiences support children to develop one-to-one correspondence, number recognition, counting skills and early mathematical thinking, while also building confidence to explain their ideas. The learning naturally connects with the EYFS areas of Mathematics, Communication and Language, Physical Development and PSED. Most importantly, the children were discovering that maths is everywhere—and learning about numbers can be fun!

Little Voices, Confident Speakers

Our EYFS2C learners enjoyed a wonderful Show and Tell session, proudly bringing special items from home and sharing them with their friends. The children had the opportunity to speak about what they had brought, describe it, share their ideas and listen to their classmates. They practised waiting for their turn, asking questions and responding to their friends’ contributions. Show and Tell is a wonderful EYFS experience that supports Communication and Language by developing vocabulary, speaking and listening skills, while also strengthening Personal, Social and Emotional Development through confidence, self-expression, turn-taking and positive relationships. For our young learners, having a familiar object from home can also help create a sense of comfort, belonging and connection as they build confidence within their classroom community.

Show and Tell in EYFS2 D

Our EYFS2 D children enjoyed a lovely Show and Tell session, sharing something special with their friends and talking about why it is important to them. It was wonderful to see them speaking with growing confidence, listening to one another, taking turns and responding to questions. This simple but meaningful experience supported the EYFS areas of Communication and Language, as children expressed their ideas, developed vocabulary and practised speaking in sentences; PSED, as they built confidence and self-esteem; and Building Relationships, as they listened to and showed interest in their friends’ experiences. Show and Tell gives children a genuine reason to communicate, connect and feel that their voice matters.

Little Readers, Big Imaginations

EYFS2D enjoyed a special visit to our EYFS Library, where children had the opportunity to explore a wonderful range of books and begin developing a lasting love for reading. The children browsed the shelves, chose books that interested them, looked carefully at the illustrations and enjoyed talking about the characters, pictures and stories they discovered. Some children shared books with their friends, while others enjoyed quietly exploring a story of their own choice. This experience supports the EYFS curriculum, particularly Literacy and Communication and Language, as children develop an interest in books, build vocabulary, listen and talk about stories, and begin to understand that print and pictures carry meaning. It also nurtures Personal, Social and Emotional Development as children make independent choices, share resources, develop confidence and learn to care for books and their shared library space. Every book opens a door to a new idea, a new conversation and a new world—and EYFS2D is discovering the joy of stepping through. We will start our parent-led story sessions for students in October.

Little Mathematicians at Work in EYFS2E

Our EYFS2E children enjoyed exploring early mathematical concepts through hands-on experiences, using their curiosity to notice, compare, count and talk about what they discovered. Through playful experiences, children were encouraged to explore number, quantity, size, shape, patterns and spatial awareness, building an understanding of mathematical ideas in ways that are meaningful to them. These experiences support the Mathematics area of the EYFS while also developing Communication and Language as children explain their thinking, and PSED as they make choices, persevere and share ideas with others. From counting little objects to noticing big mathematical ideas—EYFS2E is discovering that maths is all around us!

Getting to Know Our Outdoor World!

Our FS2D children enjoyed some special time outdoors as they explored and became familiar with their new environment. They walked around, looked closely at the different spaces, noticed what was around them and shared their thoughts and observations with their friends and teachers. For young children, especially at the beginning of a new school year, becoming comfortable with their surroundings is an important part of feeling safe, secure and confident. These experiences give children the opportunity to build familiarity with their outdoor spaces, make choices and develop a sense of belonging. The experience also supports the EYFS areas of Understanding the World, Communication and Language, Physical Development and Personal, Social and Emotional Development in a natural and enjoyable way. A little time outdoors, lots of curiosity and plenty of happy discoveries as FS2B gets to know their environment!

Sharing Stories, Building Confidence in EYFS2A!

Our EYFS2A learners enjoyed a wonderful Show and Tell session, proudly introducing their special objects and sharing their thoughts and experiences with their friends. Show and Tell provides our four-year-olds with a meaningful opportunity to use their voices, express their ideas and connect with others. As children listen to their friends, wait for their turn and respond to what they hear, they are developing important communication and social skills. The experience supports key areas of the EYFS curriculum, particularly Communication and Language and Personal, Social and Emotional Development, while also nurturing vocabulary, confidence, self-expression, listening and respectful relationships. For some children, speaking in front of a group can be a big step—and every little moment of courage is celebrated.

FS2E learners enjoyed a delightful Show and Tell session, proudly sharing their special objects, experiences and little stories with their friends. Every child had an opportunity to speak, listen and be heard, creating a wonderful sense of belonging and community within the classroom. This simple yet meaningful EYFS experience supports Communication and Language as children develop vocabulary, speaking and listening skills, express their ideas and respond to others. It also strengthens Personal, Social and Emotional Development by encouraging confidence, turn-taking, self-expression and positive relationships. As children share something meaningful to them, they also learn to appreciate that everyone has a story to tell.

Finding Our Voices in EYFS2B

Our EYFS2B learners enjoyed a wonderful Show and Tell experience, sharing their special objects, ideas and stories with their classmates. For some of our four-year-olds, this is a familiar journey as they continue with us from EYFS1, while for others, it is the beginning of their very first experience in our school community. What a lovely opportunity to bring everyone together! Through Show and Tell, children are encouraged to speak confidently, listen attentively, take turns and respond to their friends. These experiences support the EYFS areas of Communication and Language and Personal, Social and Emotional Development, while also nurturing vocabulary, confidence, self-expression and positive relationships. As our returning learners reconnect with familiar routines and our new learners begin to find their place, activities like these help create a classroom where every child feels valued, heard and included. Different journeys, new friendships and one happy EYFS2B community—growing, sharing and learning together
