It’s the countdown to the new academic year starting soon. Our staff team area all qualified early education educators and more importantly many have been here over 10 years and some since the day we started 13 academic years ago. That means they like their job and have faith in our nursery! Happy team = happy littlees. In an industry where staff are transient, this is incredible! Falcon is also the only nursery with 3 accreditations, trilingual, with specialist staff for STEMLab, UAE Culture and languages alongside our Homeroom English teachers. The biggest playground on Abu Dhabi island so kids can R U N to their hearts content. We are unlike anything you have seen and we offer year round care from 7 am to 6 pm for babies from 6 weeks -9 months, cruisers from 9 months -16 months, toddlers from 16 months to 2 years, preschoolers from 2-3 years old and FS1 from 3-4 years old. Story time antics. Your baby sees a book as an object to investigate, grasp, hold with two hands, pat, open and turn the pages. It gives your baby agency. It gives a richer environment to be exposed to language. It allows your baby to learn how books are handled.

Do you need a table for mark making? No! Mark making is a whole body activity before it becomes the small controlled finger movement associated with writing. Vertical marks stimulate your child’s large shoulder and arm movements and helps him/her to learn to cross their body’s midline. That develops from proximal stability to increasingly refined distal control which means broadly controlling the trunk, shoulder and arm supports and control of the wrist, hand and fingers. So we use different heights and orientations. The floor - we use enormous paper, chalk, paint, sand, mud, water, kneeling, squatting, crawling or lying prone. For vertical- we use walls, sideways tables, windows, Perspex, easels, fences, cardboard boxes, chalkboards and paper taped vertical surfaces. We add mark making to play - clipboards, notebooks, shopping lists, maps, order pads, labels and observational drawing. For sensory- we provide fingers with sand, flour, foam, lentils, coconut, clay and other m materials to write on and sticks, corks, feathers, sponges to write with as well as chunky chalks outside, large brushes, rollers, water brushes and using whole arm movements. The table is still available Development matters suggests wet sand, flour, large brushes, water, sticks, leaves and streamers. We are looking for whole body movement → core stability → shoulder stability → arm control → crossing the midline → wrist stability → hand control → finger isolation → refined mark making → handwriting..

If your baby experiences 3 books each day from 6 months old, by their 1st birthday that is approx 550 book experiences. By age 3 it becomes thousands. The advantage is that each interaction contains pointing, facial expression, words, prediction, turn taking, attention, memory, social interaction. Development compounds! The 1st year matters !!! Our goal before one is establishing the neurological, linguistic as well as the emotional foundations that later make reading desirable. The American Academy of Pediatrics⁠ recommends shared reading from birth (we recommend reading to your pregnancy bump). Their 2024 evidence review found that shared reading in infancy supports language, cognitive plus social emotional development and helps establish the brain systems on which later literacy depends. If that does not convince you, we as educators with decades of watching children discover the joy of reading have found children introduced to stories in infancy can concentrate on a full story by the time they are 1-2 years old, begin to answer questions on character, plot, timing, make up their own stories with classmates or to teddy bears and ‘read a book’ explaining what the story says… all before recognising one single letter of the alphabet! - International Nursery of the Year winner 2026.
