Themed Presentation - Sub Junior A - Color Concept!
Last week at Special Care Centre we looked at the themed presentations for each classroom. Through this week we took you through how each presentation went. Here is the final one!
Here is a brief of the class presentation for Sub Junior A - Color Concept!
Color is one of the first ways a child makes distinctions among things they see. The ability to identify colors is considered a marker and milestone in a child’s development. Understanding color is a tool for learning many skills in all curriculum areas, from math and science to language and reading. Children use color as a means for defining and organizing the world.
Children of Subjunior A learned to match, recognize and name colors- red, blue, green, yellow, purple, pink, black, brown and white. They achieved this through matching, sorting and coloring activities. Color concept was enchanced using teaching aids like flash cards, puzzles, games , songs, stories, etc. This fun and colorful way of learning helped children retain what they have learned.
This was the last of our themed presentations for this term. Have a happy Spring Break!

The staff and students of Special Care Centre in commemoration of World Down Syndrome Day on 21 March 2017 participated in a campaign called LOTS OF SOCKS.
All we had to do was wear bright colored, mismatched socks to school on 21 March 2017. The idea behind this was wearing something which people will ask you about, so that you can create awareness and tell them about World Down Syndrome Day.
Everyone Rocked their Sock that day!

Themed Presentation - Sub Junior B - Stranger Danger!
Last week at Special Care Centre we looked at the themed presentations for each classroom. Through this week we will take you through how each presentation went.
Here is a brief of the class presentation for Sub Junior B. The theme selected was, Stranger Danger!
This term Sub junior B had an exciting theme ‘Stranger Danger’, which prepared students to make wise choices for their personal safety.
The story of Red Riding Hood was used as an example to show students how their safety may be compromised if they talk to strangers.
Students were taught:
1) The importance of staying close to parents when they go out
2) The dangers of talking to or going away with a stranger.
3) How to act in such situations (by role play)
4)How to identify safe strangers - police officers, security guards etc
While preparing for the theme the children learnt to sequence and narrate Little Red Riding Hood story cards. They also made props improving both their fine and gross motor skills. They also memorized their parents contact numbers. The students also performed the Red Riding Hood story for the rest of their classmates.
Although an exciting theme for the students, making wise choices was a very important learning for them.
**Stay tuned, coming up tomorrow, will be an update on another themed presentation for Sub Junior A - Color Concept!

Themed Presentation - Junior A - Community Helpers - Medical Staff.
Last week at Special Care Centre we looked at the themed presentations for each classroom. Through this week we will take you through how each presentation went.
Here is a brief of the class presentation for Junior A. The theme selected was, Community Helpers - Medical Staff.
The theme was selected with a specific aim to reduce the anxiety of children around a medical or clinic setting.
As preparation for the themed presentation the children had a field visit to Al Kamal Medical Centre. The children received a detailed explanation and demonstration of medical equipment increasing their awareness and easing their nervousness around a clinic setting.
For the presentation, the students practiced using learning aids like flash cards, bingo games, art & craft activities and sight words. In the make-believe hospital "CARE MEDICAL CENTRE" the students enacted different roles like playing a doctor, a patient, a receptionist etc enthusiastically. Every one participated fantastically with full energy. The CARE MEDICAL CENTRE canteen even served healthy breakfast to whoever visited the hospital.
It was overall a great experience for the children.

Themed Presentation - Junior B - Role play - Cafe &Cinema!
Last week at Special Care Centre we looked at the themed presentations for each classroom. Through this week we will take you through how each presentation went.
Here is a brief of the class presentation for Junior B. The theme selected was, Role play - Cafe & Cinema!
Role play is simply a type of pretend play where children get into character and act out a role or real life context in a make-believe setting. Role play based on Cafe and Cinema was planned as a theme for the Junior B students.
As a learning tool a field trip to a cafe was organized where the students understood the roles played by different people in the cafe and how they work. Class activities included the students taking turns to be the ticket seller at a theatre, a cashier, a waiter holding a notepad to take orders.
On the class presentation day a make-believe setting of a Cafe and Cinema theatre, with sound effects were set up. The Cafe role play included taking orders, reading the menu, serving the food, writing up the bill and counting the money. Cinema theatre experience was to sell tickets, scan the tickets, ushering in the movie watchers, finding the seat numbers and counting money.
The activities promoted calculation skills, recognizing and naming coins, counting, reading, and many more such skills. They learnt about money, about politeness and the right way to ask questions and respond.
Seeing the children's enthusiasm and willingness to learn, teaching through role play seemed like a very effective teaching mechanism.
**Stay tuned, coming up tomorrow, will be an update on another themed presentation for Junior A - Community Helpers - Medical Staff.
