F1 in Schools is the Formula One™ Technology Challenge for School aged children in the United Arab Emirates

ABOUT F1 IN SCHOOLS

F1 in Schools is a project, based at Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, to provide an exciting yet challenging educational experience through the magnetic appeal of Formula 1TM. F1 in Schools is rapidly realising its potential of becoming the only truly global educational programme that raises awareness of Formula 1, and the business and career opportunities within motor sport in general, among students and school children. Spanning ages 9 to19 years, its main objective is to help change perceptions of engineering, science and technology by creating a fun and exciting learning environment for young people to develop an informed view about careers in Engineering, Formula 1, Science, Marketing and Technology. F1 in Schools is now active in 30 countries worldwide. National champions from all over the world compete annually for the Bernie Ecclestone F1 in Schools World Championship trophy. ABOUT F1 IN SCHOOLS AT YAS MARINA CIRCUIT

Yas Marina Circuit acquired the United Arab Emirates franchise for F1 in Schools in early 2010. The circuit hosted an invitational national final of the competition on 2 June 2010, which resulted in two UAE school teams competing in the 2010 World Championships in Singapore in September. Team Zero.9, comprising students from the Indian High School Dubai and The Australian School Pine Rivers High School from Brisbane, won second place in the World Finals and received the Best Collaboration award for team effort. The UAE champions, Team Impulse from Dubai College, received the Best Sportsmanship award. F1 in Schools challenges students to use software to design, build and race a miniature Formula 1™ car made from balsa wood, and powered by a single compressed air cylinder. Working in teams of three to six, the students must also prepare a business plan, develop a marketing strategy and make a presentation to a panel of judges. Teams are awarded points for each aspect of their project and the overall winners will receive the Bernie Ecclestone F1 in Schools World Championship trophy, plus scholarships to study automotive engineering at the City of London University.
