✊Hang in There!

🦠As we all experienced, the global pandemic has ravaged countries nationwide. Establishments, and businesses had to all close down due to the effects of the corona virus. This also made education a bit harder to pursue.

✴️Right now, education has become a privilege. Not every family has the finances to send their children to school, and still have enough to keep them alive. Even those fortunate enough to continue studying, are met with a much more stressful version of schooling. Students aren’t sure if they’re still learning.

✴️Some students decided to just dropout first and find some form of work to make ends meet. Its either they can’t handle the anxiety, they can’t see themselves learning from online classes, or they don’t have the connectivity and finances to keep up with school. Sometimes it’s a blend of all of this, and is still an issue CHED and DEPED struggle to deal with

✴️These are trying times for everybody, and a lot of us are at the end of our rope. Students have a hard time dealing with anxiety of school, and missing their campus lives.

✴️Are Minor subjects posing a Major Problem?

School has always been hard, but because of the corona virus, complying with academics has become even more challenging. Even when students want to come to classes, they can’t due to not having any connectivity, lack of electronics, or not affording tuition.

Even with proper connectivity, decent equipment, and parents can send their children to school, students are still overwhelmed by the stress of online classes.
One particular source of frustration from students is the common rant about minor subjects or GE electives. Students believe that college should be more focused classes that has something to do with their courses. Why should they pay money, study unrelated topics, and overall have something else to worry about?

Shouldn’t these GE electives only be available up until high school? Where broad learning should be promoted, so when students enter college, they can focus solely on career they can pour all their effort on.

The problem doesn’t stop there, I’m afraid. Sometimes professors of these subjects give tasks that are far too troublesome to handle along with the heavy load of the core subjects. This has been a concern for a very long time, but because of the pandemic and the dawn of online classes, students and their families further question the relevance of these subjects.
