Sharing practice in Kenya

Uphill School is a privately owned school run by the local community. Jane is a qualified teacher and set up the school to support the local families. The closet school is 1-2hr walk away, too far for young children to walk. A building was rented, a toilet built and the children take it in turns to take a jerry can of water to the school. Resources are minimal but Jane uses her creativity to teach the children basic skills before going onto standard one. Jane now has 24 children under the age of 5.

On visits to Kenya teaching skills are shared. On previous visits Jane has been shown how to use bottle tops for counting a washing line for ordering number, singing songs and action rhymes.
