Yesterday, twenty students from Secondary took part in the annual chess tournament at the Andorran School of Santa Coloma.
Many were taking part for the first time, and they rose to the occasion, often playing against students who were much older and who have much more experience than they do. We were extremely proud of their performances.

We would especially like to say congratulations to our year 8 student, who won every single game he played and came first place in the tournament!

He has done the whole BCA community proud, and we salute his dedication to and passion for the game.

Year 2 students went this Friday to discover all about animals in the Fira del Bestiar in Ordino.
This is a typical tradition in Andorra when all animals come back to town after the transhumance.

Feliç Sant Jordi!

Our senior students led a book exchange for Primary school, where they could bring a book, and exchange it for another book, or a rose created by students.

There were lots of activities related to the St. George's theme around the school, and Catalan awards.

The BCA value chosen this term to reflect on is Communication Skills

“BCA students develop understanding between themselves and others by listening to one another’s ideas and sharing their own through a mutually respectful exchange"

Secondary students and staff gathered today to open the discussion on this topic.

Year 3's topic this term was The Romans. They loved it!
The children created some Roman sailing vessels with decorations, and they even acted like soldiers, practicing their wartime Roman formation.

Looking forward to the next topic!

We hosted the first Service Learning Fair last month.
Six charitable organisations and all secondary students celebrated the gift of voluntary action.
Our students learnt about the importance of giving their time and attention to others in need. The follow-up will be a service learning day for Years 7, 8, and 9 in June, as well as the ongoing community service offered by our Duke of Edinburgh Award students and IB Diploma students.
A heartfelt thank you to the organisers and visitors.

Building a deep relationship between family and school is our aim in BCA. Families are welcome in our school, joining us to read books, or being part of a phonics lesson in Robins.

Walk like, an Egyptian

Peacocks' topic this term is Ancient Egypt. This led them to the Museu Egipci de Barcelona this week. It was an opportunity to bring some of their learning in class to life, and they were pleased with this experience.

Last Friday, the Director of UNICEF Andorra came to lead a conference with our Senior MUN club on the impact of war on children, timed to coincide with the second anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine.
It was an impressive and very revealing presentation.

Following the success of the secondary students' reading programme with the school's youngest pupils last term, it resumed this week.
Led by the International Baccalaureate Diploma students, during their break time, jumped into Early Years and KS1 classes.
Stories and texts will be read each week to foster bonds within the community.

Before the half term break, students from the BCA MUN club once more had the opportunity to attend the Oakhouse MUN conference in Barcelona, where a number of local schools gathered to discuss important topics such as how AI can improve educational outcomes, and how to improve unilateral responses to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
It was a great opportunity for our pupils to demonstrate their oracy skills and to consider different perspectives; MUN focuses on collaboration rather than the more adversarial style associated with regular debate. All of our students challenged themselves in spite of often feeling out of their comfort zones, and we are very proud of what they achieved.

As part of the topic of Biodiversity within the ESS course and the topic of Conservation and Biodiversity within Biology, some students from the IB Diploma Programme went to Zoo de Barcelona today.
They had the opportunity to see conservation in action through the breeding programs, genetic banks, and fundraising work of the zoo, while also learning about the numerous conservation projects conducted by Barcelona Zoo in the wild.
Students took part in the "scientist for a day" activity where they learned about the work conducted by the zoo.
