BULAWAYO Adventist High School (BAHS) has been plunged into mourning following the death of long-serving Geography teacher, Sithabisiwe Babra Ntshingila, fondly known as Mzapi. She was 42.

Ntshingila died after a short illness that saw her admitted to the United Bulawayo Central Hospitals (UBH). Her passing comes just as schools are set to open on Tuesday.

She had been with BAHS since 2009, dedicating over 16 years to educating and mentoring learners.

BAHS head, Sikhanyisiwe Tshuma, described her as a pillar of the school community.

β€œMrs Ntshingila was actively involved in a number of activities at BAHS. She was a mentor of the Conservation Club, health coordinator and led the speech and prize committee. Her death is a sad loss to the school,” said Tshuma.

Adding to the heartbreak, Ntshingila had just been promoted to Schools Inspector by the Public Service Commission and was set to assume duty on 1 September.

Seventh-day Adventist West Zimbabwe Conference Education Director, Dr Christopher Thebe, said her death was devastating.

β€œWe are so devastated. We loved her and were looking forward to seeing her add more years to the over 16 years of dedicated service to God and mankind. Our only comfort is in the hope of the resurrection, a belief that she upheld with full conviction,” he said.

Ntshingila, who held a Bachelor of Social Science Honours Degree in Geography and Population Studies from Lupane State University, leaves behind her husband, Philani Ntshingila, and three children.

She will be laid to rest on Sunday.
