We hope that we find you well and 2015 is going great for everyone. Here is a rundown of whats been happening at our beautiful CHS since the beginning of this year:
Academics:
1. First assembly in 2015 in the newly built hall:
The year 2015 began with a difference as all students and staff members gathered in the school hall for the opening assembly that took longer than usual. Here is the order of events that transpired: The prefects led the school in singing the National Anthem to begin the proceedings; Senior Master, Mr Nyamushonyongora, introduced all the staff members; Ms Khosa gave the opening devotion, urging students to obey their teachers, parents and prefects who are their Shepherds; Mrs Parichi talked about students’ relationships with their teachers, parents and peers while urging them to avoid love relationships that will affect their studies; Representing the disciplinary committee, Mr Dani spoke to the students about the importance of maintaining good behavior and self discipline. He said students who fail to discipline themselves will be disciplined by his committee; Head of the Fashion and Fabrics department, Mrs Chakabveyo, reminded students of the uniforms that they are supposed to be wearing at different times, around the school, in class, during sporting activities and so on; Sports Director, Mr Karumbidza, talked to the students about what is expected of them during sports times and also introduced the patrons and matrons of the four houses; Deputy Headmaster, Mr Chawhanda, concluded the addresses by talking about the general expectations of the administration for the students.
2. 2014 A Level results pleasing
The school’s 2014 Advanced Level results released several days ago are very pleasing and serve as evidence of hard work by all the school’s stakeholders. One student from the Commercials department managed to score 15 points and there are quite a number with 10 points and above in all the departments. Shona, History, Computer Science and Agriculture all recorded 100% pass rates with several other subjects having a pass rate above 80%. The Headmaster said the school received recognition from the Provincial Education Director (PED) during a meeting with Headmasters from around the province.
Sports:
1. Inter-house marathon set for Friday January 23.
The marathon inter-house competitions will be held this Friday to enable the coaches to select the school teams in time for the zonal com-petitions to be held next week. Mr Karumbidza said that this year, the form ones will have their own sporting categories as there will be the under 15 age groups for both boys and girls in addition to the usual 16 and under, 18 and under and 20 and under age groups. Preparations for the track and field events inter-house competitions should start next week.
2. SHUMBA are 2015 champions
Shumba were crowned champions after they emerged over-all winners following the marathon and the track and field athletics competitions held at the school sports fields on 23 and 28 January respectively.
It was Nzou, however who stole the limelight when they finished second, something that had not happened in several years prior to this year’s competitions. "This was quite surprising that Nzou beat Chipemebere and Dindingwe as this is unheard of and surely if these two were to somehow hear that that's what happened they would surely ensure all those representing them pay for defamation of character."
Shumba accumulated 45 gold medals, more than double those of their closest rivals, Nzou, who managed 20 while Chipembere and Dindingwe settled for 17 and 16 gold medals respectively.
3. Eight qualify for zonal competitions.
Eight athletes from Cherutombo High School made it in the the Cherutombo Zone Marathon team after performing well at the Zonal competitions held at Dhombi Secondary School last Friday.
Chido Chiutsi, Veronica Laimon, Leona Mtisi, Munashe Nhira, Sibusisiwe Mbokochena, Lynnette Somanje and Blessing Manangazira made it into the team that will travel to Mahusekwa for the District competitions on the 13th of this month (February).
4. Braai party for gold medalist.
Athletics coach, Mr. Taremba, was so impressed by the performance of the students who won gold medals at the Cherutombo Zone NASH inter-schools track and field events held at Bernard Mizeki College (BMC) on Friday. Cherutombo High School won 14 gold medals in various events. The school also won several silver and bronze medals in various disciplines.

1. School website and magazine this year.
For a number of years now, the Media Club has been promising to publish the first ever school magazine but without being able to fulfill that promise. This year, the club makes the same promise, only that this year the members are determined to make the dream a reality.
The main challenge in the past was the inability to secure funds from the school coffers. Club members have vowed to
raise the money required and have proposed a fund raising programme which will soon be forwarded to the Headmaster, through the Sports Director.
However, the club will require the support of all students, teachers and everyone in the community for its fund raising efforts.
2. New uniforms for school prefects.
Maroon jackets and Digglefold ties that the prefects are cur-rently wearing will soon be a thing of the past following proposals to phase then out as they are way off the school’s official colours.
The school colours are Green, Gold and white. The Maroon Jackets and ties bear no resemblance to the school colours.
February 3rd was The Headmaster, Mr. Ndoro's birthday. We wish him a belated happy birthday and many more happy ones to come.
