Explaining Transformations
Transformation is one of the easiest topics in paper 2 section B. The only challenge that many candidates are yet to master is describing a transformation.
You can be given a question to draw an image given vertices but the next question always require that you explain a single or two way transformation. Many candidates get that wrong
The most challenging description is a 90° rotation. Many teachers and candidates struggle to find the center of rotation.
In 'Mathematics Simplified' eTextbook I demonstrated a past exam question on how to describe a transformation and how to find center of rotation.
There are two ways to find the center:
# by observation
# by bisecting lines of corresponding sides
Don't be tempted to use matrices when the center is not the origin.
However you should be able to identify matrices for
Rotation, Reflection, Enlargement, Shear and Stretch.
For Translation, they should be a translation vector.
