Just before our Boys’ and Girls’ Volleyball Teams set off for their recent ISSA Festival Tour in South Africa, we gathered for a special kit handover ceremony to celebrate our players and wish them well for the journey ahead.

Looking sharp and ready for action, our teams proudly received their brand-new playing kits, made possible through the generous support of Zimswitch Technologies - Pvt Ltd, who sponsored the girls’ kit, and Aniki Logistics and TurfX for backing the boys.

A big thank you to our parents and staff who joined us for the occasion, and to our partners for continuing to support SGC Volleyball. We look forward to sharing the highlights and results with you soon.

Part 2: Saturday, 1 August, was the main event of our Old Georgians (OGS) Reunion Weekend, with 73 OGs from Zimbabwe, South Africa, the United Kingdom and the United States returning with their families to celebrate 130 years of the College.

The group included 26 members of the Class of 2006, with year groups ranging from the Class of 1966 to the Class of 2023. It was wonderful to see so many generations of OGs back on campus, reconnecting and sharing memories.

Lunch in the Marketing Garden was made even more special by the Hartmann House Jazz Band, who entertained our OGs, while the incoming Rector, Fr Martin Nyadewo SJ, also had the opportunity to meet and connect with our Old Georgians.

After lunch, everyone headed to Weaver Field for the final rugby clash of the season, with our 1st XV SGC Dragons taking on the 1st XV SJC Rams. The atmosphere was incredible, with our OGs cheering from the sidelines and joining in the war cries. A huge thank you to both our Dragons and Rams for a rugby match that will be spoken about for years to come. In a truly cinematic ending, our Dragons swooped in to take the win, making an already special day even more memorable!

Thank you to all our OGs who joined us for this year’s Reunion Weekend, and to Mrs Gertie Makuvise, our Alumni Liaison, for coordinating such an awesome weekend.

➡️ If you are an OG and would like to reconnect with the College, organise a reunion or arrange a guided tour of the campus, please contact Gertie at [email protected].

We look forward to welcoming even more OGs back to the College next year.

Part 1: Our reunion weekend kicked off on Friday, 31 July, with 30 members of the Class of 1996 returning home to the College. Thirty years may have flown by, but stepping back onto campus made it feel as though no time had passed at all.

The afternoon began with our OGs touring the campus, before finding themselves back in the classroom with College Archivist, Mr John McCarthy, reminiscing about their school days and revisiting memories from three decades ago.

The day wrapped up with a relaxed braai and fireside chats at the pavilion. It was a special afternoon filled with old memories, familiar faces, laughter and plenty of stories to share.

Our 1st XI Knights had a fantastic season this year. The season got off to a strong start with their European tour to Germany and Denmark, where they performed well and gained valuable experience. They continued that positive start at the St John’s College Mukuru Derby Day, winning two of their three matches and drawing one.

The Knights went on to achieve some outstanding results throughout the season, playing 30 matches and losing just three. They were crowned 2026 St George’s College Hammer & Tongues Invitational Soccer Tournament Champions and 2026 Falcon College Kambarami Tournament Champions. They also finished fourth overall in the ATS Northern League.

Their success is the result of years of hard work, with the team previously winning the CHISZ U15 Championship in 2022, the CHISZ U16 Championship in 2023 and the CHISZ U17 Championship in 2024. This group of Knights has certainly made us proud.

To celebrate the season, we hosted a get-together towards the end of term for our 1st XI Knights, their parents, staff, coaches and partners. The afternoon began with a warm welcome from our proud parents as the Knights walked through in recognition of their hard work and commitment, both on and off the field. After a number of speeches, the evening concluded with a relaxed braai, giving everyone the chance to reflect on the season and enjoy each other’s company.

Thank you to our SGC parents and supporters for their continued support throughout the season. We are also grateful to our 2026 football partners, Hammer & Tongues Auctioneers and Geo Pomona Waste Management Pvt Ltd, for their generous support of SGC Football. Thanks also go to our tour sponsor: Betterbrands Gold.

We look forward to seeing what the 2027 season has in store.
