A catch-up with my early birds on the second day of opening.
Being early is more than just arriving on time—it’s a culture we intentionally nurture. When children learn to be early, they learn discipline, responsibility, and respect for time. This habit creates space for calm thinking, better preparation, and confidence as they start their day without pressure or rush.
Instilling the culture of being early is essential for future life practice in children. It shapes how they approach school, work, relationships, and commitments as they grow. Early habits teach them that success is often built in the quiet moments before others arrive—where focus, readiness, and consistency are formed. By embracing this culture now, we are preparing our children not just for today, but for a future where time management and self-discipline set them apart.

YOUR CHILD’S FIRST LESSON IN SUCCESS SHOULD COME FROM YOU 🔥

Before you point your child toward where others get their money,
show them clearly where you get yours.

Too many parents send their children into worlds they themselves cannot navigate.
And while those paths may lead to success, the journey becomes longer, harder, and filled with avoidable mistakes.

A child without guided knowledge must learn every trick, every link, every hidden door from scratch.

But a child who starts with your wisdom, your experience, and your foundation steps into life with power, direction, and confidence.

✨ Build them with what you know.
Then release them to conquer what you don’t. ✨

A Parent–Learner–Teacher outing helps strengthen bonds between families and teachers, creating a supportive learning environment. It builds children’s confidence, reduces school anxiety, and encourages positive behaviour. The outing promotes communication, teamwork, and community spirit while helping children see school as fun and safe. It also supports their social, emotional, and physical development, giving everyone a chance to relax, connect, and enjoy learning together.

"Today we celebrate excellence and diligence — the hard work of our learners and the unwavering dedication of our teachers. Excellence is not an act, but a daily habit, and today we honor those who choose it consistently."

Having had the chance to go through student evaluations and teacher performance assessments, these are the things I learned:

Not all learners excel academically, and that is perfectly normal. Every child has unique strengths. The unfortunate reality is that our system mainly rewards memory and written performance, yet being street-wise, creative, practical, or socially intelligent is just as important in a child’s educational journey. Some learners may perform well academically, but struggle in real-life situations where logic alone doesn’t work.

I also noticed that a teacher alone cannot achieve much if the child is not supported at home. Without parental involvement, encouragement, and a stable environment, a learner’s progress becomes limited. Education is a partnership—teacher, parent, and learner—and when one part is missing, the results are affected.

Another important point is that not all children develop at the same pace. Some learners take time to shine; they may not perform well now, but with time, maturity, and the right opportunities, they grow into high achievers. The opposite can also be true—some early top performers may slow down later in life. Every child has their own journey, and success does not follow a straight line.

Most importantly, we should remember that a child’s worth is not defined by academic grades alone. With the right support, patience, and guidance, every learner has the potential to become their best version

There is a clear shift in academic culture. Today, the ideal path is to balance formal learning with practical skills. These skills must be developed early in life, and interest in them nurtured consistently.
Today, I feature Mr. Makandiwa, our very own parent at Elroy Foundation School, who has embraced this vision. He has successfully instilled a valuable skill in his son, and at such a young age the child is already producing excellent aluminum work. May the Lord bless and sustain this noble commitment to raising skilled, confident, and capable young people.

Yes, it’s true — every parent wants the very best for their children. We all desire to see them excel and achieve top grades. However, the truth is that good results don’t just happen by chance; they are the outcome of several key factors working together.

Here are some of the main influences behind a child’s performance:

1. Parental Support and Involvement – Children thrive when parents take an active role in their learning journey.

2. Consistent Attendance and Punctuality – Regular presence in class ensures learners don’t miss out on important lessons.

3. Home Environment – A peaceful, encouraging, and resourceful home helps the child focus, explore, and build confidence.

4. Teacher–Learner Relationship – Mutual respect and open communication between the teacher and learner enhance understanding.

5. Discipline and Study Habits – Good time management, self-control, and a consistent study routine make a big difference.

6. Nutrition and Rest – A well-fed and well-rested mind is ready to learn and perform.

7. Positive Peer Influence – Friends who value education inspire each other to do better.

8. Resourcefulness at home and also at School – Learners who make good use of available materials, opportunities, teacher parent and guidance often go beyond expectations.

In short, it takes teamwork — parents, teachers, and learners — to bring out the best results. 🌟
