Restoring Ancestral Lands through Climate-Smart Agriculture: Empowering Communities and Enhancing Biodiversity

On Thursday, July 22, 2026, we held a productive stakeholders' meeting at Vungu Rural District Council. The session brought together community leaders, traditional authorities, and development partners to discuss key strategies for ecological restoration, community capacity building, and sustainable livelihoods.

Highlights included:
1. Promoting agroecological practices and soil rehabilitation
2. Strengthening community ownership and participation
3. Enhancing biodiversity and ecosystem resilience
4. Exploring economic opportunities like herbal gardens and agroforestry
This initiative aims to reverse decades of land degradation, boost agricultural productivity, and empower communities to protect their environment for future generations.

Today, we joined the Zero Waste Cleanup Campaign at Mtapa Market as part of Plastic-Free Month!

Making a Difference on Good Deeds Day 2024:
A Heartwarming Handover of Mini Irrigation to a Children's Home in Bulawayo

On 16 April 2024, the spirit of kindness and community service shone brightly as the Gweru City Good Deeds Day Coordinator (member of Lains) , together with the Good Deeds Day Zimbabwe Southern Region Coordinator, attended the Bulawayo Good Deeds Day Chapter 2024 celebration. This inspiring event was a movement driven by compassion and the desire to uplift vulnerable communities.

The highlight of the day was an emotional and meaningful handover of a mini irrigation system to a local Children's Home, a vital step towards sustainable food security and improved livelihoods for the children who call it home. Thanks to the generosity of Good Deeds Day International and the collective efforts of volunteers, this project promises to bring hope, nourishment, and a brighter future to many young lives.

Empowering Communities Through Sustainable Agriculture

This project is more than just a gift; it’s a symbol of community resilience, empowerment, and hope. With the mini irrigation system, the Children's Home can now cultivate fresh vegetables, ensuring the children have access to nutritious meals and learn valuable agricultural skills.

From Plastic Waste to Building Blocks

In April 2024, one of our own Lains team members was nominated by the Save Our Environment Trust to travel with them to South Africa for specialized training on a new shredding machine the first step in a bigger mission of turning plastic waste into plastic sand bricks.

From 16–21 April 2024, our member trained hands alongside the SOET Excutive Director on the machine, learning how it breaks down plastic waste bottles, packaging, everyday scraps into the fine material that becomes the the journey of something new.

This shredder is just one component of a larger machine, designed to take plastic waste that would otherwise sit in landfills or pollute our environment, and transform it into plastic sand bricks. Bricks that can build. Bricks that give discarded plastic a second life as part of real, physical infrastructure. It's a small piece of equipment with a big purpose proving that waste doesn't have to be waste at all.

We're grateful to the Save Our Environment Trust for the opportunity, and proud of our team member for representing Lains and bringing this knowledge home to tackle plastic pollution.

This is what circular economy looks like in practice one shredded bottle, one brick, one step at a time.
