We facilitated a Media and Information Literacy session in Ndola, highlighting that MIL skills are essential for everyone to access and use information responsibly.

Media and information literacy (MIL) refers to the ability to access, analyze, evaluate, create, and communicate information and media in various forms. It encompasses both information literacy and media literacy, and emphasizes the critical thinking and ethical considerations involved in engaging with media and information in a digital age. MIL empowers individuals to be informed, engaged, and responsible citizens in a complex media landscape.
In the age of social media, our brains are constantly bombarded with information. But not all of it is true. From fake headlines to edited images and misleading captions, misinformation spreads like wildfire, especially when people share without checking.
Why Fact Checking Matters:
1. False information can harm people, reputations, and even cause panic.
2. It misguides public opinion and weakens democracy.
3. It promotes hate, division, and confusion especially among youth.
How to Fact Check:
Look at the source is it credible and trustworthy
Cross check with reliable news outlets or fact checking websites.
Check the date is it recent or old news being recycled
Watch out for manipulated photos and clickbait headlines.
As young people, you are the future and you voice online has power. Let’s build a smarter, more informed generation that thinks critically, questions boldly, and spreads truth not rumors.
Be the reason someone learns the truth today.
