"Have you become a farmer?"

This is the question many people have been asking me since I started encouraging young people to embrace agriculture.

My answer is: Yes, I believe in farming—and I believe every Zambian should see agriculture as an opportunity, not a limitation.

Let us change our mindset. Becoming a farmer does not mean you have failed in your career. It does not mean you have abandoned your profession. In fact, the most successful people understand the importance of having multiple sources of income and making productive use of their knowledge and resources.

You can be a doctor and a farmer. An engineer and a farmer. A teacher and a farmer. A lawyer and a farmer. An accountant and a farmer. An entrepreneur and a farmer. Even while searching for employment, you can be a farmer.

Your profession is your identity, but agriculture can be your strength.

Every meal on our tables begins with a farmer. Without agriculture, there is no food, no industries, and no strong economy. That is why farming deserves our respect and our participation.

To my fellow young people, don't wait for the perfect job before you begin building your future. Plant something. Raise livestock. Learn modern farming. Start small if you have to, but start. The seed you plant today could become the business that changes your life tomorrow.

Let's stop looking down on farming and start seeing it for what it truly is: a path to wealth creation, food security, job creation, and national development.

Never be ashamed to be called a farmer. Be proud, because farmers don't just make a living—they feed a nation. 🇿🇲🌱

The future of Zambia will not only be built in offices, boardrooms, and classrooms—it will also be built in our fields.

A Call to Young People in Zambia – Our Future Is in Agriculture

To every young person in school, college, university, or already graduated, this is the time to think beyond job seeking and begin creating opportunities.

Today, many graduates and young people are facing challenges in securing employment. However, rather than waiting for jobs, we can become job creators and contribute meaningfully to Zambia’s economic growth.

Agriculture is more than farming; it is a sector of business, innovation, leadership, and national development.

Zambia is blessed with fertile land, abundant water resources, and expanding opportunities. In addition, government initiatives continue to encourage and support young people who wish to participate in agriculture and agribusiness.

You do not need to start on a large scale to make an impact. Begin where you are and grow over time:
🌽 Crop production
🐓 Poultry farming
🐟 Fish farming
🥬 Vegetable production
🐄 Livestock farming
🏭 Value addition and agribusiness

Agriculture is no longer merely a sector of survival; it is a sector of opportunity.

To the youth: apply your education, skills, creativity, and energy to build sustainable enterprises, feed the nation, and create employment for others.

The future of Zambia will not be built in offices alone; it will also be shaped in our fields, farms, and agribusiness enterprises.

Plant today. Grow tomorrow. Lead the future.
Invest in Agriculture. Empower Yourself. Build Zambia. 🇿🇲🌱

Can the Objectives of Farmer Inputs Support Program(FISP) Be Integrated into a Comprehensive Agriculture Support Program (CASP)?
The integration of FISP objectives into CASP will present an important opportunity to strengthen Zambia’s agricultural sector and improve rural livelihoods.
FISP has traditionally focused on improving access to farming inputs such as seed and fertilizer to support production among small-scale farmers. CASP, on the other hand, will promote a broader agricultural development approach through productivity enhancement, sustainability, market access, and farmer empowerment.
If effectively integrated, this approach will contribute to:
-Increased agricultural productivity
-Improved access to knowledge and modern farming practices
-Enhanced household food security
-Increased rural household income
-Greater resilience to climate and economic challenges
-Sustainable agricultural growth
At household level in rural Zambia, such integration has the potential to move farmers beyond short-term input support and create long-term improvements in food availability, income generation, and community development.
However, success will depend on effective implementation, timely support, and ensuring that vulnerable small-scale farmers continue to receive adequate assistance.
Do you think integrating FISP into CASP would strengthen food security and transform agriculture in rural Zambia? Share your thoughts.
