HISTORY MADE AS NEW MUSU LIVINGSTONE CAMPUS EXECUTIVE ASSUMES OFFICE

Yesterday, 15th May 2026, Mulungushi University recorded another historic milestone as the newly elected MUSU Livingstone Campus Executive for the 2026/2027 Academic Year were officially sworn into office under the newly enacted Constitution of 2025.

The Inauguration Ceremony was successfully held at Mulungushi University Main Campus in Kabwe and was officiated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof Ambassador Roy Mukwena, marking the beginning of a new chapter of student leadership and governance at Livingstone Campus.

This historic event has positioned the newly elected leaders as the first office bearers to serve under the new constitutional framework at Livingstone Campus, a moment that will remain significant in the history of the institution.

Among the leaders sworn into office are our very own School of Medicine and Health Sciences representatives who have answered the call to serve the student populace:

β€’ Hon Gideon Chaambwa – Deputy Vice President
β€’ Hon Malvin Maambo – Education and Information Minister
β€’ Hon Phoster Lyambai N – Sports Minister
β€’ Hon Joseph Muntanga – Social Welfare Minister

As SOMHS, we take immense pride in seeing our students rise into positions of responsibility, leadership, and influence. Their appointment is not only a victory for the School but also a sign of trust and confidence from the student community.

We further extend our sincere appreciation and gratitude to former Livingstone Campus Minister Hon McDonald Mwansa Chibwe together with his cabinet for their dedicated service, commitment, and leadership during their tenure. Their administration contributed significantly to various developmental strides and student-centered initiatives at Livingstone Campus, leaving behind a foundation upon which the new leadership can continue building.

Leadership is not measured by positions alone, but by impact, service, sacrifice, and commitment to the welfare of students.

As the new administration begins its mandate, the student populace remains hopeful for continued progress, unity, and transformation at Livingstone Campus.

Congratulations once again to the new MUSU Livingstone Campus Executive.
May servant leadership prevail.

🚨ELECTION UPDATE 🚨

MULUNGUSHI UNIVERSITY MEDICAL STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (MUMEDSA) today goes to the polls in a highly anticipated General Election set to shape the future leadership of the largest student association at Livingstone Campus.

The elections, scheduled to run from 13:00hrs to 18:00hrs, will be conducted online through the Student Portal, allowing over 1,500 registered Medical Students to exercise their democratic right in choosing leaders for the 2026/2027 academic year.

As the biggest Association at Livingstone Campus, MUMEDSA continues to play a critical role in advocating for student welfare, academic excellence, leadership development, and representation of Medical Students at large. Students have therefore been encouraged to vote responsibly and choose leaders who will genuinely serve the interests of the student populace rather than personal ambitions.

The presidential race has attracted significant attention with two notable candidates contesting for the highest office in the Association. Incumbent President Kakula Simutowe (Med 4), who previously served as President, is re-contesting the position seeking another mandate from the students. Challenging him is Innocent Phiri (Med 3), who has served under the Association as Project Coordinator and now seeks to rise to the top leadership position.

Students across Livingstone Campus have been urged to remain peaceful, objective, and active throughout the electoral process. Leadership is not about popularity but vision, accountability, service delivery, and commitment to the advancement of Medical Students.

We say NO to voter apathy.

Every vote matters. Every voice counts. Choose wisely.

SOMHS TV will continue monitoring the elections and provide updates as the voting process unfolds.

MULUNGUSHI UNIVERSITY STUDENT UNION President-Elect David Banda has sparked hope among students after boldly declaring:

β€œIf we're unable to get a bus for students by December, I will resign as President.” πŸ™Œ

A statement that has already captured the attention and admiration of many students across campuses.

Even before his official inauguration ceremony slated for this Friday, the President-Elect has shown signs of proactive leadership, commitment, and willingness to confront one of the biggest challenges affecting students.

At the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, we remain hopeful and optimistic about this promise, as SOMHS students remain the most affected due to the daily transportation challenges between Hospital Campus and Parkview Campus.

Leadership is not about waiting for power to act but it is about acting before power is given.

SOMHS TV will continue following this developing story as students keep their fingers crossed for a transformed and student-centered leadership ahead. πŸ”₯

MUMEDSA ELECTION POSTPONED πŸ“

Following concerns raised by students regarding the conduct of the upcoming Mulungushi University Medical Students Association (MUMEDSA) General Elections, the MUMEDSA Electoral Commission has responded swiftly with decisive action aimed at promoting transparency, credibility, and fairness in the electoral process.

In an important development, the Electoral Commission has officially postponed the elections, which were initially scheduled for today, to Friday, 15th May 2026. Additionally, the Commission has confirmed that the elections will now be conducted through the Student Portal system, a move widely welcomed by students as a transparent and secure method of voting.

The decision comes after students expressed concerns over rumors suggesting that Google Forms could be used for voting, with many advocating for the Student Portal due to its credibility and accountability. The move has since been praised by the student community as a sign that student voices are being heard and respected.

SOMHS TV would like to commend the MUMEDSA Electoral Commission for its swift response, professionalism, and willingness to address the concerns of the students in the interest of safeguarding democracy within the institution.

This development stands as a strong reminder that leadership thrives where dialogue, transparency, and student participation are valued.

Power belongs to the students.

Tension has reportedly emerged within the MBChB 3rd Year students’ WhatsApp group ahead of the scheduled Mulungushi University Medical Students Association (MUMEDSA) General Elections set for tomorrow.

According to concerns raised by several students, there has allegedly been no formal communication from the Electoral Commission regarding key electoral procedures, particularly the official mode of voting to be used during the elections.

Students are reportedly questioning whether the elections will be conducted through the Student Portal β€” a system many have described as more transparent and secure β€” or through Google Forms, which rumors suggest may be the preferred option by the Electoral Commission. A number of students have expressed fears that the use of Google Forms could compromise the credibility and fairness of the election process.

The concerns have further intensified after comparisons were made with the recent Mulungushi University Pharmacy Students Association (MUPHARMSA) elections, where over 436 registered students successfully voted through the Student Portal system. Students are now questioning why MUMEDSA, which reportedly has a population exceeding 1,600 registered students, would potentially use a different voting method.

Additionally, students have also raised concerns regarding the scheduling of the elections on a Sunday, with some demanding clarification from the Electoral Commission on the rationale behind the chosen date.

As of the time of reporting, no official statement had yet been released by the MUMEDSA Electoral Commission addressing the concerns circulating among the student community.

SOMHS TV will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
