THE life of a 20 year old detainee held at Matero Police Station has reached a full stop without hope of a next chapter after police discovered his lifeless body in bruises.

Joseph Daka was reportedly tied up and given deadly blows which sent him to the after life while he was in custody facing charges of aggravated robbery, according to police reports.

"The deceased was being held in custody, facing a charge of aggravated robbery. It has been established that the suspect was murdered by his fellow inmates while in detention," Zambia Police Service spokesperson Rae Hamoonga.

This incident occurred between Sunday and Monday 23:00 hours and 08:00 hours today respectively .

"The custody officer discovered the body of Joseph Daka during a routine check in Cell Number three. The deceased was found with a swollen chin and bruises on both hands, indicating he had been assaulted."

Daka was apprehended and detained last Thursday at around 19:30 hours on a charge of aggravated robbery.

Preliminary investigations into the matter revealed that he was tied and beaten by his fellow inmates, resulting in his death.

Hamoonga said twelve suspects have been identified, and investigations are ongoing to zero in on who will be charged with murder.

He said the body of the deceased has been transported to the University Teaching Hospital Mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination.

Hamoonga assured the public that thorough investigations are ongoing, and the matter will be handled with the utmost seriousness to ensure justice prevails.
